Autobinding Checkboxes to Date fields

Im using a “Date” field - called "Approved & Date - on “Invoices” type, which i use as an indicator of “this invoice is approved, and the date of approval”.

I would like to autobind a (regular-bubble)-checkbox to that field, so when a user clicks on it, it adds the current date, or empties it (if already not empty)

What the easiest way to do it with a checkbox, should i use a workflow with conditions?

when checkbox field clicked run workflow

workflow is filtered to checkbox checked/unchecked (2 workflows - 1 for each option) - then write or clear the date in the field
