Best barcode scanner plugin

Hi all,

i’m looking for recommendations for a barcode scanner for my app. I am currently using the plugin “barcode scanner”, which is free, but it is not reading the barcodes very consistently. I can scan the same barcode 3 times in a row and it gives me different results.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable barcode scanner? II am happy to pay for it if the plugin is known to work well in a mobile app.

Hello @tom3 ,

QR Code Scanner free plugin by Stuart B seems to be working just fine with Nativator.io on iOS, it opens the camera and scans. You can’t test on Previewer to double check your workflow.

I have been using “barcode scanner” by the same guy, that’s the one i’m having trouble with. I’ll look into this QR based version instead and see if it’s any more reliable!

Will it work fine on Android as well ?

I am using this plugin and it doesn(t work on the previewer. It is a core feature for my product so I need to know it can be done before converting my app with nativator.

You could use this solution along with the “Deep Scan” flag if the default code detection settings does not yield to sufficient accuracy:

I tried the barcode reader “PDF417” but it is not able to read the content.

Tried to generate the barcode form this website- Free Online Barcode Generator: PDF417

and scan using the given link.

I tried that barcode from PDF-417 — Wikipédia. Uploaded to the plugin. Works well.

Are you trying to scan with the PDF-417 displayed on a device screen @ankur1 ?

I just tried with the downloaded file, which is a gif → fails.
Converted it to png → works.

I do not understand why this website generates a gif for static barcode. Anyway, will be updating the documentation accordingly to exclude gif.

@tom3 (or anyone else here)… did you ever find a barcode scanner that works consistently well? I too am searching for one and I’ve tried 3 so far, none of which seemed to work well. Is there one that’s known to work well, free OR paid either way…? Thanks!
