Borderline bug - the design view should use example values, not variable names

This has got to be a bug. There should be an option within designer to use example values rather than variable names. Otherwise the design view is quite misleading.

Work with Test/Dummy Data

Is there any way to work in the design view with test data so that text widths can be previewed more accurately? It’s a big frustrating to see “Parent group’s event’s date:formatted as …” It’d be a lot better to see the actual date formatted for a preselected data value. I could submit a feature request, but I can’t be the first person needing something like this. Any suggestions to improve the design view?

Here’s what I’d expect to see in the designer view:

Why would you expect to see that in design view? (that’s what preview is for)

And how would you edit, or know what you were looking at in the design view if it just showed example data?

And where would the example data come from?

You’d still see the variable name in the design popup, just not on the preview behind it.

You’d be able to toggle that preview between using real data vs variable names.

It would make the design process so much quicker by getting a live refresh rather than a 3 second refresh in a second browser window. Seems like a small 3 seconds but it’s not.
