I love bubble and have been using it for over a year now. It has been the best programming language i have ever used. So with that said…
Now that Bubble has a nice new home page and a nice logo what about changing the bubble name?
Everyone i talk to gets excited when i tell them i am a web developer. We start talking and they have ideas and then the dreaded questions comes…they ask what language i program in, i then tell them bubble and its like i said a bad word or something. They give me this strange look. Then, i never hear from them again. Business lost.
So, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to say… i use Visual Script, or I use Visual CS (For Visual Coffee Script) or Visual Node or Visual Node.js or something like that. Since bubble is built with CoffeeScript and Node.js it would make sense.
We could make it an actual language instead of a name no one has heard of.
What do you all think? Is it time? Could this potential push “bubble” to the next level?
I don’t think this will solve your issues here. The key issue is that we don’t have any control over the source code. Do you need to optimize a function? Too bad. Do you need to do a loop? Too bad. For “real developers,” this is why Bubble is a “bad word.”
For people like me, however, I don’t care what anybody else thinks about this. I’m not a web developer, I build products using Bubble. It’s the outcomes I care about, and that’s why I try to impress upon people.
I’m both an app builder (bubble) and a node full stack developer.
I wouldn’t try to be something you’re not - and currently you’re not a web developer in the sense that most people think. As soon as you start trying to avoid those dreaded questions, you’ve lost whatever sales battle you’re in.
Here’s what I would do:
Build an app or two you can point to. Everyone with their salt respects something that works, better if it makes money. If that doesn’t impress someone they’re either a wantrepreneur or an asshole.
Learn fundamentals of a coding language, either JavaScript or Python. It’s worth it, and with teamtreehouse you can study on weekends and evenings.
At the end of the day, no one else’s opinion matters as to what you are or aren’t. Start building and don’t stop, success is the best revenge and things you do/build/create are what attract clients and close deals.
