Hey there Bubblers.
If you’ve ever wanted to build your own directory of tools, startups, or other companies (really whatever you want) but didn’t want to go through the time and hassle of building a directory from the ground up - then this template may be interesting to you.
We recently launched RBM Tools Directory. We built it with a “bring your own content and it should just work” mindset. Where you can bring in your own content (from a spreadsheet), upload it as an admin, and then have the app populate the listings.
So what’s included in the template?
- The ability for the app admin to populate their listings from a CSV (Instructions provided with the app)
- Controls at the app admin level to determine how the header and footer should look like within the app
- The ability for the app admins to create and manage multiple categories (as well as import those categories)
- Users can submit listings (We call them curators) using a form that has a real-time preview of what the listing would look like
- Category, Listing Pages
- Admin dashboard
- Curator (User) dashboard
- HTML Sitemap located within the footer
What does this look like and how is the design handled?
Well in building this template we used pretty standard patterns for handling the color scheme within the app e.g. using style variables that are semantically named e.g Primary 10 (the number 10 basically means the lightest primary color, whereas Primary 70 would be the darkest primary color). We use these style variables within the element styles to ensure consistency and one-to-one updates (If you bring in your own color palette to this template, the changes should reflect within the different component of the directory).
