Can you manually - behind the scenes - confirm an email address?

We are having issues with our email sender (sendgrid - dont use them) and would like to confirm the email addresses of people that have tried to sign up but have not received their confirmation mails.

I know that I can see if the email is confirmed but can I twizzle something to just confirm the email address?
