Data or PNG? How does Bubble sort image data?

When pasting an image in the rich text editor, the image is somtimes stored as a PNG on Bubble’s CDN servers and sometimes it is converted into a data:image tag.

I’ve done many tests and cannot see why sometimes Bubble does one or the other.

Does anyone know?

I’ve done some experiments and the outcome is super weird:

We pasted the same image 8 times in the same rich text input. Every time an entry is created it will alternatively record the image as a PNG and as a DATA:IMAGE. The outcome is predictably an alternation of the two types.

This is strange. Why would Bubble do that?

It’s time to establish a “most weird bubble stuff” rating and put it on vote.
