Delete only 1 conditional statement at the top, but not all other statements below?

Ok, so this has been a huge problem and frustration for me - I want to delete this statement at the top, but not everything else. Every time I try to delete it or backspace it, it deletes ALL OTHER STATEMENTS BELOW IT. Very frustrating. What am I doing wrong?

I’ve noticed the same thing. Unfortunately I haven’t found a workaround.
