Drop down list issue

If you have a list of text in an entry, how do you go about displaying that in a dropdown?

I have a field type called dog_name and I am trying to get it to display multiple entries in the drop down, however it only does it on one line.

Those would be two different dog names, so they should be on different lines.

Please let me know if you need more clarification.
