Hello, i’ve become a bit confused with how :grouped by works in regards to getting the first item within a group as a list.

As you can see from the two top images, I have a list of things that I am grouping up by day, but what I want to do is grab the first item from each day; I tried :sort by but when I attempt to grab the first item its no longer a list, as it should ideally be a list of the first item from each day (or group). Perhaps :grouped by is not the way to go about this… Thank you very much in advance, not entirely sure what the best way to go about this is.
