Hiding App Speed - Instagram Case Study

Shoutout to @petter and his awesome book Ultimate Guide To Bubble Performance.

In that book he talks about “User perceived speed” vs “actual speed” which is a cool concept where, in one example, you can indicate completion of a task that is actually running slowly and that’s ok.

Turns out Instagram pulled off this trick in the early going with picture uploading.

Check out this Lex interview clip with Instagram founder Kevin Systrom and be inspired!
