Hiring: Experienced Bubble Developer — Two-Sided Literary Marketplace (~9–11 months, Contract, Remote)

We’re building Page & Parley, a two-sided marketplace connecting fiction writers with trained readers for structured manuscript feedback. Think Fable meets Reedsy, built on Bubble.

The platform includes a full published book club experience with AI-generated discussion guides, and a manuscript assessment product where genre-matched readers complete structured surveys and participate in facilitated discussions before the writer receives a comprehensive feedback report.

We’ve completed extensive pre-build research (three quantitative studies, 13 qualitative interviews, 34 product decisions) and have a detailed development spec ready (2,000+ lines covering every feature, business rule, and integration point). We know exactly what we’re building — we need someone who can build it well.

The Build

Phase 1 (estimated 6–8 weeks): Book club MVP — user accounts and onboarding flows (separate reader and writer paths), club creation and management, Google Books API, discussion scheduling, reading pace tools, club discovery, AI-generated discussion guides, Zoom events, reader training (quiz-based), Stripe subscription billing, notification system, badge system.

Phase 2 (estimated 12–16 weeks): Assessment product — configurable survey engine with conditional logic, genre branching, and template variable fields (this is the most complex single feature and the one we most want your honest reaction to), writer submission flow, BISAC genre matching, Stripe Connect for reader payouts, AI-generated assessment reports, community pool, writer dashboard, admin configuration panels.

Phase 3 (estimated 12–16 weeks): AI manuscript extraction for survey personalization, advanced analytics, community scaling, automated publication tracking.

Phases are built sequentially and continuously with no planned gaps. Phase 1 is the initial engagement; continued work through Phase 2 and Phase 3 is contingent on Phase 1 delivery and working relationship. Total estimated engagement: approximately 9–11 months.

What We Need

• Deep Bubble experience — not learning alongside our project

• Marketplace or multi-user-type platform in your portfolio

• Stripe Connect experience specifically with marketplace payout flows — Express or Custom accounts routing payments to independent workers. We need someone who has done this or can speak to it with real specificity

• API integration experience (Google Books, Zoom, AI APIs, email services)

• Comfort building admin-configurable interfaces — many business rules must be changeable by founders without developer involvement

• Design sensibility — we provide functional requirements and information architecture, not Figma files. You propose the UI

• Strong communication — weekly check-ins, proactive risk flagging, ask before assuming

Remote, any timezone with reasonable overlap for weekly calls.

How to Respond

Send a message with:

• Brief intro and 2–3 relevant portfolio examples (marketplace, community, or survey/form-logic platforms preferred)

• Your honest take on the Phase 2 survey engine — is a configurable survey engine with conditional logic, genre branching, and template variable fields feasible in Bubble? What concerns do you see?

• Your Stripe Connect experience — specifically, have you built marketplace payout flows in Bubble using Express or Custom accounts? If yes, describe the project. If no, how would you approach it for a platform where readers are compensated per completed assessment?

Strong candidates will receive the full development spec and we’ll schedule a call to walk through it before finalizing terms.

We’re evaluating on value, capability, and fit — not lowest price. We’re reviewing candidates from multiple channels and expect to make a decision within the coming weeks. We’ll follow up with everyone once a decision has been made.

Hey @pageandparley

Welcome to the Bubble Community! :tada:

Would be happy to chat to see if we might be a good fit. Check out our website for more details and portfolio for NoCodeMinute.

I think we could have a talk to understand Phase 2 better and then can give you some feedback about it.

Hope to talk with you soon!

Hey Julie @pageandparley ,

Sent you a DM, detailing approach, portfolio and a genuine recommendation.

Kindly check, thanks!

This is the most challenging part. Yes it’s feasible in Bubble. I have already built a survey-report engine with full flexibility and template variable fields and even versioning (i.e. Admin can update the template without affecting already taken surveys)
