i want to hide a 1/4th of the repeating group when the page is loaded and include a button that when clicked the rest

In the case of a repeating group you can use pagination. Pagination only loads and shows a subset of the repeating group entries at a time, and when a user clicks a button, it loads more. Pagination is great for page load performance, decreased WU load and much more. There are various ways of achieving pagination, there have been many discussions in the forums. The plugin ‘List Shifter Karma-Ware’ can be a very good solution for this.

In the case of a group you can place the secction that you want to hide into another group which is hidden by default. When the user clicks the button you can Show the group either with a direct workflow action or by setting a state.
