How to: Tabular Data grouped by Month

Getting so confused looking at this simple table and have tried so many ‘grouped by’ iterations I’m too tired to see the solution.

Thing = Dog

field one: breed (option set)
field two: desex date

Any ideas how to set up my repeating group/s to display the number of dogs desexed per month by their breed?

Aggregation is on the right path but how to do the 12 columns?

I am trying to use a nested repeating group but cannot access ‘a list of groupings’ and can’t get the count for each month…
