Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on **LongRun** , and I’d love to have some fellow Bubble users try it with something they’re actually building.

It handles file generation and processing through individual API calls or workflows you build visually. There’s quite a bit in it now, so I wanted to explain what you can do with it rather than just drop a link.

I’m looking for honest feedback. If the setup is confusing, something doesn’t work as expected, or you don’t see why you’d use it over your current approach, I’d like to hear that too.

**Call one action or build a workflow**

If you only need to do one thing, such as converting a webpage to PDF or resizing an image, you can call that action directly through Bubble’s API Connector. You don’t need to build a workflow first.

For tasks with several steps, you can use the visual workflow builder, connect inputs and outputs, test it, and publish it for your app to call.

Here’s an example I put together and tested. It takes invoice data, generates a PDF from a template, adds page numbers, and compresses the finished document.

**Design reusable PDF and image templates**

There’s a visual template editor for documents and images you want to generate repeatedly with different data, such as invoices, certificates, reports, or social cards.

You can add text, dynamic values, images, tables, shapes, charts, QR codes, barcodes, and other elements. Then send data from your app to populate the template. You can preview the result before connecting it to your app.

Here’s an actual generated invoice using fictional customer details, three line items, tax, and a calculated total.

**What’s included**

LongRun currently has **79 actions** across these areas:

- **PDFs:** Generate PDFs from HTML, URLs, images, or templates. Merge, split, compress, extract or delete pages, reorder and rotate pages, add watermarks and page numbers, extract text, run OCR on scanned documents, convert pages to images, and read document information.
- **Images:** Resize, compress, convert, crop, rotate, remove backgrounds, add watermarks, overlay text or another image, create thumbnails, generate images from templates, convert images to PDF, and read image information.
- **Spreadsheets and data:** Convert between CSV, JSON, and XLSX. Merge or split CSV files, filter and sort rows, select or remove columns, rename columns, remove duplicates, find and replace values, trim values, validate datasets, and inspect their structure.
- **ZIP files:** Create archives, package files together, list an archive’s contents, and extract all or selected files.
- **Video:** Compress, convert, resize, crop, trim, merge, add watermarks, generate thumbnails or GIFs, extract audio, remove or replace audio, and read video information.
- **Audio:** Convert, compress, trim, merge, normalize volume, change bitrate or sample rate, remove silence, extract audio from video, and read audio information.
- **File utilities:** Inspect, copy, and rename files.

**How it connects to Bubble**

You use **Bubble’s API Connector** to submit a job to LongRun. Processing happens in the background, and the request returns a run ID. Your app can use that ID to check when the job finishes and retrieve the result.

You can also configure webhook notifications.

There’s a **Bubble file upload integration** for sending finished files into your Bubble app, with public and private upload options. It has its own setup guide in the docs.

Inside LongRun, you’ll also find:

- **Runs** , where you can check progress, inspect results and errors, and retry or cancel runs where supported.
- **Files** , where you can manage uploaded and generated files, download results, and save temporary files you want to keep.
- **API keys and secrets** , for managing access and storing credentials used by your workflows.
- **Usage** , where you can see your processing activity and storage usage.
- **Version history** , for reviewing saved workflow and template revisions.

**Getting started and pricing**

Everyone signing up is currently on the **Free plan** , which includes **1 GiB of storage**. No payment method is required.

File-size and processing limits still apply. The docs explain the limits for each action, along with its inputs, settings, and examples of both the initial accepted response and the completed result.

There are also guides that walk through your first action, working with files, building workflows, using templates, and setting up Bubble file uploads.

**What I’d really like feedback on**

You don’t need to test everything. Trying one task you already need in your Bubble app would be helpful.

- Could you connect it and get your first result without getting stuck?
- Did the docs give you enough information?
- Did the output look and behave as you expected?
- Were the error messages useful when something went wrong?
- Was anything missing or unnecessarily complicated?
- Would this fit into your current workflow? If not, what would need to change?

I’ve spent a lot of time building and testing it, but I need people who haven’t been looking at it every day to tell me where it falls short.

If you give it a go, please reply with what you tried and how it went. Questions, bugs, and criticism are all welcome. Just leave out API keys and private files when sharing examples.

I loved the idea, so I decided to give it a try and run a few tests!

One thing I noticed, though, and something that would be really useful for me, is the ability to create dynamic PDF templates and make certain variables bold within the text.

From what I’ve seen so far, we can insert `{{variables}}` anywhere in the text, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to make those variables bold.

This would be particularly useful in my case, since I often work with longer contracts where I need to highlight specific pieces of information to make them stand out.

Do you think this would be relatively easy to implement?

Also..

I tried setting up a super simple workflow: receive a variable, replace it in the template, and save the result as a PDF.

Just three steps… and I still couldn’t get it to work. 😅

Thanks for taking the time to test it and share this.

I understand what you mean about formatting. In a contract, you might want the customer’s name or an amount to be bold without making the entire paragraph bold. That’s a useful distinction, and I’ll check what’s needed to support it properly

The example you described should be straightforward to set up. I’m sorry it wasn’t. Thanks for including the run ID, that gives me a specific run to investigate.

I’ll look into the rendering failure first and come back with what went wrong. I appreciate you sharing where you got stuck.
