Javascript to Paste In Searchbox

Can anyone help with Javascript to paste a piece of text that is already in the clipboard into a searchbox, selected by it’s ID (selectElementByID)? Tried most of the snippets found on the web using Toolbox Plugin and using ‘Run Javascript’ in a workflow but does not work. I am sure I am doing something wrong, fuelled by fear of code!
