The team has been shipping a lot lately — and Josh and I wanted to show you ourselves.
On June 3 at 12 PM ET we’re going live to demo the latest releases and take questions from the chat. A lot of what we’ve been building came directly from feedback shared by you in this forum, so we wanted you to be the first to see it.
And as always, we expect some good live questions from the community — make sure to bring yours.
Triggering custom event from backend is so strong, global expressions has huge potential, if somehow you can make triggering from reusables possible it would be a game changer like global custom events. Else its just popup passing variable to a reusable variable.
Overall its a huge step in terms of actually listening to feedback and health of the community.
So that I will start giving feedback, enable display data on reusable properties not just the initial one or enable dynamic custom states. And again performance is very important.
Thanks to everyone who joined today’s livestream where Josh and I walked you through the latest releases live. May was a big month for the team, and a lot of what we covered came from requests made right here in this forum.
We shipped a lot. Here’s everything we covered:
Dark mode: It’s true! Toggle it on from the editor.
Editing workflows from the design tab: Reorder and edit workflow actions inline without switching tabs.
Display names for arbitrary text, arbitrary dates, and Do a search: Label these operators however you want so your logic is easier to read at a glance. These are just the first of a few smaller updates designed to make your experience in the editor that much better.
Descriptions for reusable properties: Add context to a reusable’s properties so collaborators know exactly what these properties do.
Triggering a backend custom event: No more API Connector workarounds to call your own backend workflows and return data. This is one of the most requested features on the ideaboard.
Conditional styles: Apply styles to an element based on a condition, with less workaround logic.
Image generation in the editor: Using the Bubble AI Agent, generate background and placeholder images from a prompt without leaving the editor.
Plugin editor redesign: Updated UI to match the rest of the editor, with improvements built around your feedback, so thank you for that!
Global saved expressions: Another highly requested update. You can now define an expression once and reuse it across your app.
We also previewed one thing that isn’t out yet:
Natural language behavioral testing: Write test cases in plain language and an agent runs them against your app. Currently in its final stages, but the team is excited about this one.
The second half of the livestream was me and Josh answering questions from the chat. You can watch the full replay here.
Thanks again for being here — excited for you to try these out.
For this one, can you have an option at the page level to choose the background color in editor (not for the page itself, but for the editor itself, middle section). Sometimes, mostly with reusable element, we want to keep the transparency, but the dark mode make it hard to edit
This is great! But actually, if we want to give a dark mode to our users, we need to create a dark mode version of all styles and also create a conditionnal to all elements. Could we have a “dark mode” version of styles and this could be linked to a field in user like for language. If current user dark mode is yes… this will automatically use the dark mode version of the style.
Great work and from what we understand, this will happen more often now! Thanks
Great updates! Just a question why it blinked as @fede.bubble profile photo when you posted haha. Funny bug (I think).
The backend update is awesome, thanks for listening the community
Yeah, would be amazing if there was an auto-dark mode based on our existing style.
They said they spent a lot of time creating the infrastructure to enable these changes. This is the month to refine it based on testing, then after that it’s gonna be a constant flow of stuff.
Great job bubble team. It was super refreshing to see feature after feature showcased - it brings back the memories years ago when the small present/gift icon would light up orange and they’d be a new feature release waiting, but this time it was multiple.
Keep this stuff up, going in a nice direction. Be awesome to see this showcased quarterly (or monthly ).
