Last Mile Desperation! / Partnership Opportunity

Please read the whole post before replying!

I am in desperate need of help to finish my project. I had asked for help previously and had been speaking with someone but they stopped responding to my DM’s. To give a bit of backstory and what I’m looking for, my wife and I have been out of work for the last couple months due to injuries. Unfortunately we were unable to make regular store runs for food and other items. After becoming frustrated with the lack of delivery services in my area and the fact Uber Eats/Grubhub/Etc are ridiculously expensive, I had an idea.
The idea is an on-demand ordering app but one that wasn’t limited to just food and only available in areas where the aforementioned companies said they were going to offer their service. In addition, it wouldn’t rake businesses/customers/drivers over the coals with fees. In addition to this, people are getting tired of everything being a subscription stacked with random charges, fees, surcharges, service fees, etc, etc, etc. I’d like one flat rate for businesses which is just 20% of each order and a flat, per-mile charge for delivery or something equally easy to understand. I understand it may be better than the big names in certain ways and worse than others but as long as the pricing structure is simple, I think it works.

Bear in mind, before I started this project, I owned/still own an automotive detailing business. I had absolutely no experience with app development but I did have a little experience setting up a cookie-cutter Weebly site. After watching endless hours of YouTube videos, reading through hundreds of various forum posts and articles as well as just figuring it out on my own, I’ve gotten to the point where I need to ask for help finishing the app. I’m about 90% done but there are things to finish that require someone more experienced than I.

I should add that in the previously described journey, I’ve added elements of the videos/posts to the app because 1. It helped greatly when figuring out how to make certain things work and 2. It just makes sense to have them as part of the whole app.

When figuring out how to keep companies and employees together and separated from other companies and employees, I watched a tutorial on creating a jobs board. So now my app has a jobs board. It makes sense because if a company and consumers are going to use the app, why not allow businesses to posts ads that consumers can see?

When figuring out how to set up an order/delivery workflow and how a customer can keep track of an order, I watched tutorials on building an Uber Eats clone and an Uber clone. So now my app offers a ridesharing service. It makes sense because if a delivery driver has no deliveries, they might as well have the ability to offer rides as well.

One part I haven’t gotten to is building a marketplace page. The idea for this is to have a marketplace page where people can post products for sale as well as services they offer. One thing I’ve noticed is sometimes you find a great deal on FB marketplace but the problem is, you have no way of picking it up because you don’t have the right vehicle like a truck/trailer or it’s far away. People can post their availability to pick up/delivery an item and people can request a delivery driver to pick up/deliver an item. So the delivery service isn’t just limited to businesses selling products.

All that said, I’m very open to changes being made within the app as long as the general purpose and features are retained. I did the best I could with my limited experience and design capabilities and can recognize when someone has a better idea so please don’t think you’ll have difficulty making necessary changes.

Lastly, and probably one of the best parts about this app, It’s available to anyone or any business with an internet connection. There’s no waiting for my company to decide when or if the service will be available in an area.

Now, to what I’m looking (desperate) for and what I’m offering.

I am offering an equity partnership to someone with enough Bubble experience to be able to go through what I have so far and finish the app with me. I need help optimizing the pages and workflows to speed up the experience an make it more user-friendly. I also need help with ensuring the security of users by double checking the privacy rules and Stripe connection. I also ask that the interested person have enough experience to be able to help me scale the app once it gets more users. At this point I have to reiterate my wife and I have been out of work for the last couple months and because of this, we’ve eaten into our finances greatly. My wife has only returned to work last week and unfortunately, It’s not enough to support us both. As a result, I’d like to tell whomever may be interested that I cannot afford pay right now. This is why I’m offering an equity partnership. I’m confident this app has the potential to be something great if I can ever get it finished and out into the world. Remember, Uber started because two guys had trouble getting a taxi in Paris and Facebook started as a way for Harvard students to connect.
I’ve already gotten my business taxes registered with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue but I haven’t filled out the LLC paperwork yet. If/When I find a partner, I can get that paperwork set up. I haven’t gone any further than that due to the fact an operating agreement between partners needs to be discussed and agreed to.

If you’ve read this far, please don’t reply with a copy/pasted response. Please tell me what you think of the project as well as any specific questions you might have. If you have examples of your previous work, I’d love to check it out. Bonus points if you have references.

Thank you!

For this part, https://www.flusk.eu/ or https://secure.notquiteunicorns.xyz/ will give you some peace of mind (or not, depending on how the results look)

Best of luck

The toughest part of any marketplace style business is bringing both sides at the same time. You could have the perfect app but without a growth and marketing strategy for user acquisition, it won’t matter.

Have you tried collecting signups to a waitlist to verify that your idea is worth pursuing and that there are enough providers and buyers to create demand for this application?

Thank you for your reply. I’ve had several local businesses express interest in the app after posting about it on a local FB group. We’re in a town of 13,000 so because it’s not a big market, Uber Eats/Grubhub charge businesses a lot and it’s only available for food. And since it’s a more rural area, people in the country look forward to having a delivery service available. We used to have a delivery service in the area but the woman who ran it had to close down due to her moving away and people miss having that available.

Thank you! I tried using Flusk but I have to pay for results. I haven’t heard of the other one but after a cursory look and seeing it’s free, I’ll check it out.

Yeah well I made it, so maybe I’m biased, but it’s free and doesn’t require collaborator access so definitely worth a look.

There might be too many features, job board, marketplace, ride hailing, those 3 big features will inevitably make it so your app won’t see the light of day.

For the sake of finding a partner, getting app launched, gaining traction and then scaling, start with and focus on the one problem you attempted to solve, deliveries, and solve it first for the 13,000 residents of your town in need of such a service.

Then scale that single service to a larger user base. After that, let your users provide feedback on the app, make tweaks and continue to improve the core product. Only after that should you consider adding another large feature like ride hailing or jobs board. And, again, let user feedback tell you which large feature to add.
