Monthly Community Update -- December 2024

Hope those of you in the US had a great Thanksgiving. This is the December community update. You can read last month’s update here.

It’s hard to believe we’re in the home stretch of 2024! As a team, we’ve been reflecting on everything that’s happened over the past year (in fact, stay tuned for something in your inbox). Bubble also just earned a spot on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 list, which feels like a testament to all we’ve done in 2024. I’m personally extremely excited to build on that momentum in 2025.

Now for the updates:

Everything that launched last month

Flusk features are officially integrated into all paid Bubble plans with no change in pricing. This means you’ll have direct access to security features like privacy rule definition, database leak protection, and API security checks. To get started, make sure you’re logged into Bubble, and then visit app.flusk.eu and sign in with your Bubble account.

We’re still evaluating how to include Flusk’s monitoring features in our plans. Users who have used these features in the last six months will retain their access, but otherwise access is limited. ‌For now, if you’re on a Team plan and would like access, reach out to our Support team.

We’ve been getting a lot of requests to be added to the mobile beta. We’re still adding users twice a month, and we’re growing the size of each batch over time. In addition to addressing bug reports from beta testers, the team also added more mobile-specific reusable elements and improvements to push notification capabilities.

As the next step in the research process for the mobile plugin editor, the team recently completed building a mobile plugin proof of concept. This gets us one step closer to enabling a plugin ecosystem for mobile.

Bubble Assist, our AI-powered app builder, launched in alpha to a small group of new users this month for feedback on UX and output quality. This feature is going to be a game-changer for beginners and will make getting started on Bubble much easier. You can learn more about what we’re building on the blog. Right now, the alpha is only available for new users, but we’ll let you know when that changes.

There are a number of editor projects in flight right now:

Changelog: Last month, we launched changelog to a small group of alpha testers who very actively use version control. This feature allows you to view and filter changes made to a branch. We’ve already pushed a few updates to the experience, including the ability to filter entries by collaborator as well as date and time. These changes should give you even better visibility into what changed in your app and when.
Toolbar: We also launched an updated toolbar (the menu at the top of the editor) to around 10% of users. The new toolbar has improved UI/UX that make it easier for you to navigate the editor, and sets us up for upcoming releases like mobile. We’re planning on launching this update to all users later this month.
Onboarding flow: We’ve updated our onboarding flow for new users so you can get into the editor and start building faster.
Workflow tab beta: The team is continuing to ship updates to the workflow tab beta, including a back button that’ll make it easier to navigate through connected workflows.

In October, we released some updates to the Agency account experience to enable better organization and help you grow your business. The response was really positive, and we’ve made a few minor bug fixes and quality of life improvements since. Join the conversation on the forum here if you have more feedback.

What we’re working on

Workflow tab
- Thanks to everyone for their continued feedback on the beta. Right now the team is working on implementing a new “mode” that’ll give you an alternate view so you can see more than one flow workflow at a time. This feature is scheduled to be released to the beta in December.
- Looking ahead, we’re planning to move out of beta by the end of January!
Backend workflow tab
- Backend workflows are getting their own tab alongside design, data, styles, etc. This is an ask we’ve heard a lot during user research. It’s better information architecture (and three fewer clicks), which means it’s going to be a lot easier to find and build backend workflows. Since this is purely a navigational change, we’re rolling this out to everyone in December, rather than making it opt-in.

Changelog
- We’re adding even more granular filtering options including change type, element, workflow, data type, and plugins. That work is scheduled to be completed early in Q1.
Mobile
- Next up, the team is working on improving the deploy flow and adding a selectable list element. We’re also working on a prototype for the mobile debugger as well as more robust Android support.

This summer, Hive Health (who we featured in the BubbleCon keynote) raised ‌$6.5 million in Pre-Series A funding for their healthcare platform. Read their showcase story here.
Check out two new native mobile apps built on Bubble that launched this month:
- Vela, an app for travel recs, built by Ramzi on Bubble’s Product Design team
- TardySweep, which helps schools track and report student tardies, from Justin Kyser

New hires

To close out the year, we had three newcomers join the team. Big welcome to Shauna, our new head of legal, and Jen and Meyron, both joining as senior software engineers.

Quick housekeeping note: A lot of the Bubble team is taking some much-deserved time off ‌between December 24 and January 2, so there may be ‌longer wait times than normal for less urgent support requests.

Have to respectfully disagree with your opinion Matt. I think both are well placed within the editor. If anything there should be a survey or discussion amongst designers about it. But I think both are fine.
I think I understand where you are coming from that it’s a duplicate. Well I don’t know if it’s just me, but I use the left search to search for elements more than I do the right search.
Because the left “search” input is in your face, while the right search input is hidden.

@recker249 what Matt saids make sense, like, in the Table element, you cannot search by columns using the element tree search, it only shows in the Search for an element. Very tricky

Personally, I absolutely prefer the left search elements option. But I agree, this in the end a duplicate and not needed.

I think the left search is ok, but it should reset the search filter after clicking. (which was the previous function of the right search).

Right now, when you click an element from the search, you are not able to see where your element is within the element tree. It becomes very irritating to have to clear the search bar manually after each search.

Yeah to be fair, it doesn’t matter if it’s placed on the left or right. Just needs to function like the current (right-side) element search.

New toolbar: I really hope that there is an easy way to locate reusable elements while searching (like we can now). This was a BIG PAIN while using the experimental toolbar with a client… which I disabled quickly I am afraid.

the new toolbar is cute but when we are gonna get WU logs that are actually useful? you announced this and killed it instantly. the current logs are unusable and we should expect better from a modern app builder

Both the element search boxes are absolutely needed and the box on the right being removed currently in the beta toolbar is a huge miss.

I put a ticket in for this weeks ago since you cannot access table element columns that are expanded off the editor page without it.

One huge request…

Can you add a quick way to Disable an Action?

I love how you can Disable a Workflow as it makes testing new features way easier and faster.

However, to test new Actions, I always put a weird Condition on the old one like… Current Date is Empty… Or Current User City is Bob

Disabling an Action would be awesome!

First, I want to congratulate you and the entire Bubble team for the outstanding work you’re doing. Your commitment to making app creation more accessible is truly remarkable, and I’m particularly impressed by the efforts you’re putting into developing Bubble Assist.

I joined the waitlist from the very beginning, hoping to integrate this innovation into my project. Based on the anticipated November launch, I’m now in a critical situation where I need to make an important decision about the technology to use.

Could you provide more clarity on the actual release date of Bubble Assist? Is there a way to join the beta testing phase or get a more precise estimate to help me plan accordingly?

I’m confident this tool can revolutionize the way I work, and I’d love to rely on its availability in my decision-making process.

Support is adding the element search back into the menu bar.

The table element workaround for now is to pick a column you can see in the editor and tab through to the column you need. This also works for columns hidden that need to be selected.

@josh The Flusk announcement got me really excited. Weeks later I’m still stuck on “Our security and compliance algorithm has flagged this application.” with support repeatedly chirping the same “Our apologies bla bla bla” story…

Has any of the 90% seen this? The menu bar looks the same to me, and there’s one day left in the month. Am I overlooking it somehow?
