[New Feature] New Workflow Tab in Beta

New design brings even more emphasis on the order of steps. Does this mean that the steps are now in the order of how Bubble execute it? Or will new users bang their head against the wall for even more days as Bubble is not doing what they expect. Probably because they do not know that the visual flow is wrong and also step 1, step 2 etc does mean nothing?

If it still not respects the order, I propose that Bubble rearrange the steps when done to reflect the real flow of execution with at the same time the designed flow on a button to toggle on or of in order to compare or something

@sem I doubt anything functionally has changed because a small beta test would drastically change the behavior of workflows.

What you’re looking for is their planned feature:

@tylerboodman thats a much better future. As soon as they have that implemented it all makes sense

@kate.mcnally Did we lose the ability to rename by clicking here?

Kinda annoying to have to go to the left sidebar to rename…

Also –

when you’re in backend workflows, the page selector still shows you’re in the page you were at before you went to backend workflows

I’ll file bug reports for these

@kate.mcnally

I also miss the old feature if when you display data into a popup, on the next action it suggests to show the popup, can we bring that back?

Page load & performance is not about UI or UX of builders (If you think having very bad scores and overall low performance products give the builder anxiety or headache than yes ) . In this case , IMO having useful built-in date time picker , image compressor picture uploader , customizable file uploader , customizable slider input , dropdowns and actually working groupfocus is far better than workflow tab UI fixes .

Another UX issue for searching and/or folder organisation.

Context: I have a new folder and I want to find a specific action to put inside it. I filter by the type of event but it filters both actions and folders. So my new folder (called ‘Initialization’, for context) isn’t visible.

The only other solution I have is to have no filter and manually scroll to find the workflow then manually scroll + drag to put it in the folder.

Also,

This:

was much better than this:

I find it much more difficult to see at a glance which action I want in the new design. Please bring the subheaders back

Data related actions (set state, display list, clear list, display data) should definitely be separated from visual actions (animate, scroll, show, hide, toggle)

So interesting to read this all. It seems that not much is improved? Seems we could even argue it is worse not better?

For sure there must we a ton of good things. I am sure they a lot of people at Bubble have worked for maybe a year to provide us this improvement.

Therefore, would love to hear if someone can give a list of what is improved and what is not.

I still don’t date trying the new UI/UX but perhaps I am missing some great stuf!

Exactly the same feeling. In addition to scrolling down you have to use the icon, you can’t use the mouse wheel. In short, I found the old version 10x clearer. The best is sometimes the enemy of the good. What we need is not cosmetics but integrated functions like loops and everything we currently have to do in javascript with a plugin.

In reality you are not missing anything at all. There is no change in functionality, it is just the display that changes and that many of us find much less intuitive and clear than before. At first I thought I would get used to it after a few weeks, but not at all I always spend more time than before to find what I am looking for in these new workflows. The colors are very useful and before you saw that directly, clearly, now it is just a small point in a list… In short try it and tell us

Yeah, minor improvements to UI, major decrease in UX, usability, etc

Didn’t you know? Wider screen = more “productivity”!

Dude! I’ve never seen such a productive screen :joy:

In general, though, I think we should all look at one hugely important word in the title of this thread → “Beta”

Bubble has bigger plans for this crucial tab beyond just making the UI vertical. Take a look at the BubbleCon recordings. Things are coming! If you’re unhappy, revert to the original view in the meantime. Let 'em cook!

I am spending much more tome looking for the WF I want, My old system was easy. I color what I’m working on and create a ‘Working On’ folder. Simple. When you have a lot of WF on display our brains are still faster at finding what we want looking at the whole thing rather than figuring out what it is we want from a list. Sorry not yet a fan.

  • Using up/down arrow in workflow sidebar should move down to the next workflow, rather than scroll the sidebar
  • Searching backend workflows should also include the workflows with the ID (e.g for workflow sign_up_user with name Sign Up User, searching sign_up should show that workflow). Currently it just searches name.

Been using this new workflow editor a lot and the biggest gripe at moment is simply that the left hand panel is really cluttered. Namely:

  1. Uncategorized folder opens by dafault. Would much rather everything closed default.
  2. “x actions” uses up entire line. Please just present a nice clean list of workflows.
  3. use of colour is almost pointless right now. But it’s an important brain aid.

I mean you could even have a nice overview rather than a “nothing selected” message, such as this OS style overview (forgive the quick mockup):

Opening a folder would obviously then take you to it’s list of workflows overview, and those would open the vertical flowcharts we now have. Plenty of scope for colour coding nicely.
