Hello, I am a newcomer

Hello @sudsy
How do you handle the margin situation when going from 1200px to 320px in a row layout?
Thanks!
any word on this fix?
Funnily enough, I was wrestling with trying to drag an element from one group into another one that was hidden below it, and I thought exactly this. If I could have dragged it into the element in the nest it would have been so much easier.
Iām actually doing something pretty similar. I just cut the element then go to the element tree and past it in there. That way Iām not wrestly all the different layers and it goes where I want it to go.
Of course, it kills the workflows when you do that - but thatās another beef entirely.
There are so many problems with drag in drop in the new environment.
A) You canāt move from a larger container to a small container. Even if its flexible width, if the width of the first container is bigger than the second, you just canāt drag into it.
B) Layers or groups within groups are also a nightmare, the system has no idea which layer youāre trying to drag it into. And if you select the layer you want, as soon as you click on the item you want to drag, the destination layer is obviously de-focused. Cutting and pasting is the only way Iāve been able to try and re-build any pages, that is anyway complicated.
C) As you mention, you canāt drag between item.
Iāve always found drag and drop in bubble difficult as it was, but I never ever use it now in the new engine. Anyway, I hope that improve this but right now IMO itās just borked.
What if you Copy with workflows and then Paste with workflows?
I donāt think thereās a hot key for either of those commands, so it would have to be done from either the contextual menu or the Edit menu in the top menu bar. I havenāt tried it myself, but maybe itās worth a try.
I still find it useful - just not as useful as it could be. And to be fair, most of your criticisms arenāt related specifically to the new layout engine. Itās the same behavior thatās been around for years.
The good news is that (according to a recent community update) Bubble has committed to introducing some of the editor enhancements theyāve been working on for months, but in an ongoing incremental manner instead of as a major update. So perhaps weāll start to see some noticeable improvements in the usability realm.
A bit more context / detail might be helpful. Not sure what you mean by āthe margin situationā. What layout and behavior are you looking to achieve?
Hi all,
As a newcomer, Iād first like to thank the bubble team for this great new addition, along with each and every member of this wonderful community for their contributions to others.
I would then like to ask if the new responsive engine make possible to do the followings - or if new features are in the pipeline and will make this possible:
-
1) Conditional Alignment
e.g.: WHEN authorā message is current user, THEN horizontal alignment is āright-alignedā
This way a CHAT could easily show a column of messages that are aligned to the right - when written by the current user ā or aligned to the left - when written by other users (i.e., senders).
I also saw @jacobgershkovich wondering the same question in his first video - btw, Iāll take this opportunity to kudos and thank him for that great tutorial!
-
2) Conditional min/max width
e.g.: When current page width is > 992 āTHENā max width is āXXXā px
This way we could set elements to grow and decrease differently within different kind of devices (i.e. dropdown elements could vary from 250 (min) to 300 (max) pixel width in a mobile layout, 300-320 pixel in a tablet layout, 300-350 pixel in a notepad/desktop layout.
- 3) Padding
Well, just padding in addition to margins - a conditional one maybe?!
Thanks in advance !
Thank you for this! I am loving the new engine - it gives much more precise control.
Has anyone else had problems with workflows that scroll to the current cell of a repeating group since the new engine came out? Iām having trouble making it work, although it worked fine before the new engine was released. Not sure if its on my end or related to the update.
Hello bubblers,
So far Im really liking the new RE (Responsive Engine) and solved an issue with RGās I couldnāt previously
Are popups not scrolling still an issue in the new responsive engine? If not have you figured out a solution around this?
Since there is no drag and drop and it is really hard to find where Iām placing things on the main canvas. My work around is to create an element at the bottom then copy that element. Then select the parent element I want it in/under in the element tree and paste it. It will the go to last in the list in that parent element and I can just switch the order that I want it in.
I actually hadnāt even noticed that!!! Thank you, thatās hugely useful. And Iād never explored under that Edit command either, which has stuff I didnāt know existed.
Iāve learned a lot from this thread of little ways of working, that is not really obvious. Not sure if Bubble has a page where all these little shortcuts can be listed but it would be certainly worth having and given to people like me, who are too impatient to do the intro course and just like to dive in!
Yep, thatās what Iāve been doing too. Not ideal, but it gets you there.
Really enjoying this but it gets some using to! Thanks!
Hey @nick.carroll - there are lots of items to be addressed and follow along with here. Is there any chance that there is a way for users to track the open items and the progress on fixes? I know that there are a few items that block development on some pages, but I donāt know how often to check if the fix is live or not. Is there a way to get more updates on this specifically? Maybe a daily or every other day update on a locked thread that we can follow along with?
Thanks!
That doesnāt help completely. You can copy and paste with workflows and retain the workflows. But then you still have all the references referencing to old element only.
So you have to search all those references and change them to new one, and then delete the old items.
And in that also if someone deletes the old items first (like I did a few times initially when I first learned about this feature), then at some places the editor will not even tell you that those actions are referencing to non existing element, so that you can fix them. Some actions are just simply deleted when you delete an element.
+1
A centralized place to know which bugs have already been informed will be a good way to optimize bug reporting.
