[POLL] Please fix the review system. It's time

This:

There needs to be some sort of prompt or “flag” system in place for users reviews.

For the user:

They need to be able to agree to something stating that their review is not an “issue” that could be fixed through our various support channels. Maybe a new field in our plugin editor called “support channel” or something, in which the user can be prompted to use that before leaving a review that could harm the reputation of the plugin.

For the author:

We need to be able to flag reviews that don’t show as an actual review, rather than a troubleshooting issue that could be fixed without bringing the reputation of the plugin down itself.

This is my description:

Clearly a link to my support channel if needed. Also, a quick search on Bubble, I have the ONLY “hCaptcha” post on here which users can use for support.

Out of the 14 installs, (me being one or two), I have had 0 complaints, and then all the of the sudden this user wants to spoil the first review of a small plugin for something that could likely be easily fixed (as is likely due to something on their end as I have testing the plugin numerous times and it works).

Luckily this is the only hCaptcha plugin otherwise it’d bring me down on the list for such a simple issue. How harmful could that be for other freelancers that are trying to make it? Granted this is a free plugin, but I supply free plugins to bring reputation to my organization and for my clients.

Now I could understand this type of review if:

  • I didn’t supply any support to the user.
  • I don’t provide sufficient updates to keep the plugin responsive/functional.

In this case, the user didn’t give me a chance. I literally responded to the review within minutes.

Now I know I’m not the only one

I’ve seen TONS of plugins with bad reputation (some actually well-deserved, some not so-well-deserved) that has countless reviews on users with troubleshooting issues, rather than an actual review.

I’m not trying to be a crybaby, but I believe the review system needs a complete revamp.

This is a call to all authors/freelancers/agencies - I know you want this to be implemented as well. Voice your opinion in the poll!

I agree.

To avoid things like this, when the steps are clearly detailed in the documentation, but the user doesn’t read it before giving a negative review (there was the original complaint about an “issue”, which was possibly edited by the creator).

There are so many cases like this.

A review page isn’t a support thread - just look at my plugin reviews that are full of support or feature requests.

What would help is that prior to uninstall, the system asks whether the user had an issue and proposes a form to contact the plugin author for support before leaving a review.

It leaves a chance for the plugin author to understand the issue and/or improve the doc/plugin itself.

In its current form, uninstalling with or without review doesn’t leave any room to improve anything.

@henry.dowling don’t know if you’re still working on plugin ecosystem? Thread is one for the radar (might be something that Bubble’s already looking into overhauling, I don’t know though)

“I couldn’t use the plugin” - 1 *

I couldn’t agree more with this. Especially when there has been enormous effort put into building a quality plugin and supporting documentation.

The entire plugin market is jacked up

To a certain point.

The UI was clunky for everything else. The review system is still the same its been since it started, which is the only specific feature I’m referring to.

I agree. I think this is also another “prompt” that should be added as well. A lot of marketplaces already do this.

@ben13 - Perfect reference.
@Newed - Another perfect reference.
@georgecollier - Thanks. This is one of those things I need the community to back with, cause support/idea board wouldn’t reflect the priority of such a thing.

Authors need to disclose if you’re tracking your end-users now

You heard right. Due to certain agencies abusing this ability, they have implemented an option to disclose whether or not your plugin actively tracks users behaviors/data in any way. This is a great achievement in my opinion as I highly advocated the privacy for each of my plugin users. The reason I bring this up, is because I believe they could easily change the way the review system works within a decent time-frame as well considering the responsiveness they made after a few complaints about some people abusing ToS.

I’m just going to leave this poll here:

  • Review system needs work
  • I’m okay with it
  • I don’t care

We’re still waiting here
