Sign up and log in button works in body of document but does not work in the header

I am new to this and about finished with my app but when the sign up and log in body is not in the header it works. That is, it directs the user to a popup to sign in or log in. However, whenever the sign up or log in button is in another part of the app they don’t function at all. I am lost. Would appreciate any guidance. Thank you in advance for any help. All the best.
