As you probably already know, there are a few reasons why that is not always advantageous…which is why there are CDNs.

It’s more reliable, cause if there’s an issue with the Bubble CDN they can actually fix that

They can’t fix Unpkg or Jsdelivr because it’s a third party dependency — the only advantage I saw was that with Unpkg or Jsdelivr you can get the latest version of the NPM library, but @Jici talked about what that might not be best above.

Btw for anyone who’s using a free plugin and wants to decouple from Unpkg or Jsdelivr you just need to fork the plugin, replace any urls of either CDN with an uploaded version on the shared tab of the plugin editor, then use that URL instead.

More specifically, you would open the Unpkg or Jsdelivr link, CMD + SHIFT + S to download it, then upload that file

Could be ok as long as the file size is within bubble limits…or the files could be broken up and uploaded which is more added steps. Jsdelivr handles large files. And, also, manual updates would need to be done if there are updates. JsDelivr can automatically update. Could also make the file size of the plugin bigger…and a few more.

Jsdelivr though allows you to use fallbacks which solves the problem in my opinion.

All in all, it’s a personal choice I guess.

You’re absolutely right.

I also believe then bubble should update / modernize the bubble plugin suite to avoid this problem in the future. Whether that’s allowing us to host files as big as we want them to be, or better yet integrate something like Webpack or Vite. That way, the libraries and packages can be used on the client side without relying on external sources.

While I’m on this topic. I know the bubble server side action editor is just a wrapper for lambda. However, the 5mb package limit is too limiting and we are not able to configure reading or writing of files. This hinders what we can make on the server side (by the way, this would resolve ALL PDF needs on bubble).

This is exactly a reason to manage your own file sometimes. Yes jsdeliver can also fetch a specific version, but if you always use @latest, you could suddenly (and maybe when you are not available) got a broken plugin because a new library version is available that is not compatible with your code anymore.

Totally false. This is a link. The file itself is not encoded. This is exactly the same thing that you set for jsdeliver, but the file use Bubble CDN storage.

Absolutely… but based on correct assumptions

For me the only reason to use jsdeliver is if you want to use @latest version. As for the fallback… I consider that if Bubble CDN is down this is probably because the whole Bubble system is down too…

Since Bubble choose WU, Bubble should unlock a lot of server side restrictions as the user pay for the server capacity used. However, for the actual WU pricing, it doesn’t make sense to use server intensive script on Bubble actually

You are correct. I will give you that. I was in a hurry when I posted.

I had meant to say longer download times.

Even though it’s a link it still needs downloaded to the user’s browser.

I would rather depend on Jsdelivr to do that…as do many of the largest companies in the world.

The other points I mentioned I still completely believe.

Thank you for your response—I appreciate it. If possible, could you expedite the transition to JsDelivr? Unpkg was down again this morning, which caused issues with our Air Calendar plugin, and our clients have noticed the impact. Plus, looks like mJackson is working on new architecture for unpkg, which may help in the long run, but may cause new issues in the immediate term. Less reliance we can have on unpkg and move to something more stable, the better.

So, I’ve experimented again.
With the daily.co plugin and a loader, both using unpkg.
It’s up and down but say on average a 10 second load time.
As soon as I remove them it’s back to the normal 2 second load time.
