What Message and Phone Terminology is Used in Your Country?

Hey everyone… I’m developing a messaging system that sends Text/SMS messages, and I’m wondering what terminology people use in different English speaking countries.

What words do your country use for:

  • The device you send them from: “mobile”, “cell phone”…?
  • The actual text / sms messages: “Text”, “SMS”…?

As well as the most often used term, I’d also love to hear which terms would be completely meaningless to people in your country.

I have never heard of “handy” before for cell phone. I use mobile, mobile phone, cell phone or cell. I am in California, USA.
