This is likely an optimization technique implemented by the CDN to accelerate image delivery. Modern image formats offer faster loading times compared to traditional JPG or PNG formats.

The situation is not about how the data is saved but rather how it is delivered. Nowadays, this type of approach is very common because loading these images using AVIF or WEBP formats is much faster than PNG and JPG.

You can use a Chrome extension to convert directly in the browser.

> **[Save Image As PNG - Chrome Web Store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/save-image-as-png/nkokmeaibnajheohncaamjggkanfbphi?hl=pt-BR)**
>
> Adds the "Save Image As PNG" option to the context menu of images.

it may be something of versioning of the plugin or some problem in this text app (although it does not make much sense) or even some html/js code that is resulting in this behavior. If you want call me on pv and provide me access I take a look.
