I’m trying to alternate different font weights in my app, like for instance, Ubuntu 300 and Ubuntu 700. But somehow it’s not updating and keeps on looking the same. Any idea why?

Untick the Bold option on each font as it interferes with the weight 
You’ll see the difference then.
