How to save something to database during an app update

Sometimes an app update happens when user is in the middle of work. When they are forced to refresh the browser, the work is gone.

Is it possible to save something to the database (or run a workflow) during an app update? Before the user refreshes the browser. Thanks!

P.S. I do have auto-save but I still want an emergency save during an app update.
