My mobile side bar has iconify icons and one of my app users cannot see the icons. I can see them from my phone from her login so clearly a device issue, so I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this and if so if they found a solution.

I would suggest you to use SVG files.
I use them in all my projects. They are extremely light, customizable and I never had any issues with incompatibility.
In Flat Icon’s site (here) you can customize the icon and download it as SVG.
