New user, first time posting. I’m new to ‘tech’ generally, too, so that’s fun.
Anyhoo, I’m trying to build something that like Instagram, need to ideally have a left hand vertical menu using Icons. Is this something that’s possible in Bubble? I promise I have looked, but I’m finding it all a bit confusing! I don’t want to break what I’ve already managed to cobble together!
Thanks for you patience for what is, I’m sure, a very stupid question!
There’s no stupid questions, especially when new. Always good to try something new and learn a few skills.
Yes, you can build a menu in bubble - there are also several plugins that offer such capabilities in various forms out-of-the-box, many of which can be customised.
I personally built a menu myself, but I can attest they are VERY fiddly and will take quite some time to perfect. The main challenge comes if you want it to be dynamic, instead of being manually built. I built such a menu, and it was an absolute monster to get working right.
Your best bet is to decide how you want to integrate the menu - whether it is a floating group (sits above every other part of the page), or is part of the page layout itself (and thus can move around items on the screen if it is expanded). Once you have this decided, add a main container group and expand on it from there by adding more groups, and set up actions for when you click on the relevant groups (which represent the buttons) to navigate to various pages. I would suggest installing the “Material Icons” plugin, as those icons are quite diverse and the functionality of the plugin and icons is pretty good - you can preview them on the google documentation also.
Hopefully that gives a few hints on where to begin!
Thank you @davidthorpie! It’s all a bit overwhelming but I’m determined to learn. My concept is clear in my head (thankfully), but the older I get the harder I find these things to learn from scratch. That’s really helpful, thank you!
