Interested in using Convex as a database/backend since I’m hearing good things about it. https://www.convex.dev/
I see some plugins for supabase, but not Convex. Has anybody tried using Convex as a backend and bubble for frontend?

Hi! I’m building a plugin that integrates Bubble <> Convex as the backend / database, providing real-time synced data. I’m also planning to integrate Clerk for authentication and user management.
This has been a challenging project, but I’ve already reached the first milestone: the Bubble frontend is fully connected to the Convex backend, running smoothly and extremely fast. From Bubble, I can already create, update, delete, and list data stored in Convex.
I’ll share more details once it’s ready for production. ![]()
From my experience, Supabase isn’t a great fit with Bubble, but Convex looks very promising, specially because real-time sync and WebSockets are handled natively, so there’s much less complexity on the Bubble side.
Congrats! @abel.negociosdigital.
Nice progress. Getting real-time sync working cleanly is the hard part, so that’s a solid milestone.
I’ve had similar friction with Supabase + Bubble, especially once realtime get involved. Convex handling sync and sockets natively does sound like a better fit.
If you’re open to it, I’d love to try this out on a real Bubble app and give feedback from a production use case.
Thanks! Yes, that would be great.
The plan is to share the plugin for beta testing once it’s solid enough. At that point, I’d be happy to let you try it on a real Bubble project and get feedback to keep improving it.
I’ll reach out as soon as it’s ready for that stage.
But why?
@georgecollier good question.
It mainly comes down to DX and use case. Some people prefer Convex over Supabase (and vice versa), and that’s totally fine.
Personally, I’ve found Convex to offer a smoother DX for real-time data and backend logic, which fits better with how I like to work and how this integration is designed.
There’s plenty of discussion comparing Convex vs Supabase on Reddit and other forums if you’re curious about different perspectives.
But why use Convex with Bubble?
What I hear George saying is: “why would you build with Convex and Bubble? why not Convex and code?”
Which is a fair point.
@rico.trevisan Sure, is a fair point. Actually Convex + Code works better.
but why not Bubble + Convex? @georgecollier We already have Bubble + Xano / Bubble + Supabase / Bubble + Firebase so why not Convex? that for me, is better than those alternatives
I’ve seen George argue his point on Bubble + [insert db name], his point – which I agree with – is that Bubble is a fantastic all-in ecosystem. Its parts alone are not great.
Convex is already doing so much (and doing it so well)
I even wonder if you could enjoy all the benefits of Convex with Bubble as a frontend.
I’ve tried very close this combo B+C. So it has real potential. I want to use Vector Search and AI features on my side, and also share this Stack to everyone.
Bubble is a great full-stack tool, I love it. But some clients want an external db, to avoid the lock-in or pricing changes, etc, That’s why I’m building this plugin to provide better and faster developer experience
Then if a client later says ‘ok lets migrate to code’, it becomes mucha easier, we just replace the front-end.
for example I heard about https://synthflow.ai it stated as a Bubble app, currently they’re migrating to code (react and aws) At the moment the entire dashboard is basically an React iframe. They couldn’t fully migrate because the User table is quite complex to move. Thats the reason I propose Clerk for Auth and user management too.
We work on Synthflow. We joined them exactly because they were experiencing issues during migration.
And yes, their dashboard is a mix of Bubble native pages and iFrames. I built the navigation system around it recently (which is exceptionally fiddly).
So, I’m well aware of how migrations can be approached on Bubble and why they fail.
@georgecollier yeah, that’s another reason not to depend entirely on Bubble.
We all know that sooner or later, when an app starts to grow, it’s time to move to code. Building from the beginning with an external database and proper user management is a better approach.
Using Supabase right now can be quite complicated due to various issues and slower development. I believe that using Convex together with Clerk could make this process faster and easier for developers.
