It would be nice to have masonry option for standard groups, it seems as if it is implemented for repeating groups it should also be possible for ordinary groups.
Is this the place to submit the idea?
Have you tried using Groups with layout set as row and the inner elements configured to fit width to their contents? Or even working with percentages as minimum and maximum width to the inner elements? This is totally possible with these approaches.
