Preview of the redesigned property editor

Hi everyone,

My name is Mike, and I’m a product manager at Bubble.

Over the past month, we’ve been collaborating with power users to get feedback on our redesigned property editor. We’re sharing this preview because the beta launch will begin to roll out in phases on December 11, 2025, and when it does, you’ll have the option to try the new experience or stick with the current property editor while you get familiar with the changes.

Why we rebuilt the property editor

The original property editor served us well when Bubble was first built, but it was becoming outdated. We rebuilt its foundation to future-proof Bubble and support the platform’s evolution by:

  • Updating the outdated tech stack to make it faster for our team to iterate and add improvements.

  • Simplifying the UX and information architecture to make building on Bubble more intuitive and easier to learn.

  • Giving it a visual refresh to align with modern design patterns and feel more approachable.

Backend changes

We updated the property editor’s foundational code to make it easier for our team to edit, debug, and refine the experience, setting the stage for faster, more reliable updates moving forward.

Specifically, we migrated the frontend to SolidJS to make it easier to edit and debug PE issues. We also updated the design system with reusable components for more consistent design patterns across the editor. Finally, we improved file and information architecture to de-tangle functionality and reduce hidden dependencies, speed up engineer onboarding, and keep the codebase organized.

A sneak peek at what’s coming

Some immediate changes you’ll notice: reorganized and renamed tabs, a cleaner and more visual UI, and a pinned property editor that can be hidden with the Esc key at any time.

Beyond the reorganization, we’re introducing better visibility of custom states and workflows directly in the property editor, so you can see what’s connected to each element without switching tabs. We’ve also addressed common points of workflow friction — for example, the ability to name conditionals and drag-and-drop conditionals.

The updated architecture also sets the foundation for future AI-powered features to help you build even faster.

Solving known issues

This rebuild has already eliminated several long-standing bugs, including issues with padding/margin values, color picker display problems, and conditional tab usability improvements.

We’ll be sharing more details as we get closer to the broader beta launch, but we wanted to give you a preview of what we’ve been working on.

When the beta rolls out, we’ll have a detailed migration guide ready that gives you a comprehensive overview of what’s changed between the old and new property editor, including exactly where to find properties in their new locations to help you get up to speed as quickly as possible.

Your feedback during the beta phase will be crucial in making sure this redesign truly improves your building experience.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Amazing work @mike.alvarez! I can’t wait to test it out.

finally!

Excited to try it out, I even wanted to be in the alpha!

Hope the default sizing imposed by bubble to the different element types can be modified, or at least it will be harmonized

Are we finally getting something like this!?

The update looks exciting, hoping it will help speed up advanced developers (less clicks, short key options, etc) and not be just a good looking UI/UX for new users.

I’m really excited for this!

I like it, but the editor was the only white screen relief. I need a dark mode. The main issue i had with the editor was finding elements in your data where the name is long.

Yeah this has been needed for a long time, definitely useful to have this insight at a glance. Agreed about having a dark mode for the editor during those long sessions.

My main gripe with the property editor, is its sizing and things being cramped e.g. cutting names off for fields, states etc. Be great to have this dockable (I know you can currently lock to right, but it starts cutting off UI in say the conditionals after certain height stack) and resizable as well, kinda like the elements tree.

Conditionals that can be named is a plus for sure. Going a step further, ability to add comments as well would be nifty, it seems like one of the only places left without this ability.

Looking forward to the 11th.

So right out of the gate I would absolutely love the ability to dynamically switch conditionally the page or element style.

Use case;

App theme

  • Option set to act as an enum
  • Page based styling to control a gradient theme color and style
  • Conditional sets the option via a Property or State
  • UI updates all styling

Really looking forward to the new property editor!

I’m not sure whether its going to be part of the rollout but would be amazing to have:

  1. when property editor is not locked, have enough white space left and right of the page so that I don’t need to always move the property editor out the way to view the page.
  2. OR when property editor is locked, make the property editor stick to the right side even on window resize. Not sure if its a bug but right now, on window resize (say smaller width), the editor stays where it is while the window resize, leaving a blank side column where the editor should be. Very annoying at times.

Basically I just want a property editor that isn’t in the way of the page I’m building or testing. Right now, whether the editor is locked or not, there is just something fiddly about it.

Pleaseeee ship it with dark mode, honestly if it’s just for the editor alone not workflows and settings, I’d still be thrilled!

Can’t wait!

With the new stack, will it be possible to revisit the new expression editor that let you add new expressions/conditionals in the middle of an existing one? When it worked, it was incredible. I wish for it every day.

And +1 for dark mode.
