I’m Lindsay, a product manager at Bubble, and I recently started working on the redesigned property editor.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been going through the early user alpha channel, forum comments, and support tickets to compile all the feedback I can find. My goal is to improve usability and turn the new property editor into something you genuinely love working with.
There’s a lot of potential, and your feedback has already helped us make meaningful progress over the past couple of weeks. Here’s what we tackled this sprint:
UX and UI improvements
Only one popover can open at a time: Now, popovers will automatically close when you open a new one to reduce the overwhelm flagged by many users (with a few exceptions like custom states and color picker). Note: A popover is a temporary panel that appears outside the property editor to show additional information.
Popovers close on tab switch: Popovers now close when switching tabs to help screens feel cleaner and more organized.
Popovers close on click-outside: Popovers will now dismiss when you click anywhere outside of them, not just when you use the close button.
Direct workflow links: Hovering over a workflow in the property editor now surfaces a direct link to that workflow in the workflow tab, reducing the clicks needed to access an element’s associated workflow.
Detach color variables: You can now detach a color variable to reference its hex value instead of the global variable definition.
Clearer style conditional messaging: Style conditionals are now more clearly communicated as inherited from Style via updated copy.
Version control sidebar alignment: The version control entry point has moved to the left side of the menu bar to align with the left-opening side panel and make it easier to access when the property editor is pinned on the right.
Static number fields now allow typing negative numbers starting with a minus sign
Dynamic background color values are consistently supported in conditionals
Adding a min. height and adjusting an element’s layout will never sporadically set the height to 0
Custom states are only able to be added/edited from a reusable element’s definition, not its instance.
Rich text editor is available again for :formatted as text and Arbitrary text
The Feather icon library now renders properly
Dropdown defaults are only highlighted in red if the default evaluates to the wrong type
Fields in community built plugins are ordered correctly as the creator intended
Plugins will no longer incorrectly render the properties section twice
The dynamic image popover now renders all fields properly
Clicking into an input will never remove part of the placeholder
Add a breakpoint in debug mode will always appear in the properties section
When the element is not currently visible, selecting Reveal element will now always reveal and select the element
The conditionals “…” menu now anchors under the entry point instead of appearing beside it
Coming soon
We’re reducing the number of popovers and bringing back inline access for dynamic expressions, constraints and sort by, custom states, and workflow fields.
I ran into something: when I click ‘Add all fields’, it correctly adds only fields that aren’t already in the list, but it also adds fields marked as _deleted. It would be much better if _deleted fields were excluded and not added automatically.
Hi Lindsey, I’m wondering if there are any videos that are up to date with the current platforms design for creating image carousel/Ticker because the ones online are old and it’s difficult to achieve my goal. Would be helpful to have that.
Not sure if this is mentioned here but can we label workflows that are disabled when viewing them. There is no easy way to know which one of these two is disabled and requires clicking on both or hoping you get the right one the first time
It makes it pretty tedious to have to track down the specific workflow on the lefthand side in order to delete and especially to swap folders. Would be great if we just had the same options when clicking on either side.
Hi There, I see the feature as an option to turn on in Chrome based browsers. However, opening the same app in a Mozilla based browser, does NOT show this option. I have turned off all adblockers on bubble.io.
Also noticed, I can’t increase numbers, for example in the padding, by increments of 5 anymore. I used to be able to hold shift and press up and it would increase by 5 each time.
