Stuck and thinking of starting again

Hi All,

I’m stuck on a particular part of an app I am trying to build, but also think I might need to start over completely ( database info doesn’t quite match up ) - Design/responsiveness seems to be all out of place - ( never mind the list of things I want to add, that I haven’t started yet ! )

Background -

I’m making a “donations wanted” app, which allows the administrator of the page to post donations that are needed from the community ( a bed for example )

In this example, I want a volunteer to be able to click on the “thing that’s needed” - and let the team know they have this bed. They would then - enter their details, a pickup time, etc on how this “thing” can be donated.

The next step in this process is to have another location Where this thing is being donated. Sometimes it goes straight to the Community organisation we work directly for, or sometimes it goes into a storage lockup.

The main issue I have - is I can create the database and have a list of things needed.

I can’t seem to click on this button and have the thing needed ( bed in this case ) and then reference that thing ?? I’m getting stuck, and feel I might need to start again and go over various tutorials etc again.

Can someone point me to what I need to research?

( While I’m at it, as I think I may have missed a few things in the database to add - can someone help with a great way to get all info required in a database ?? ) - Do you just use pen/paper or excel ?? or just modify as you go?

In this case, I’m kinda modifying as I go, but it’s looking Very messy!

Anyway - thanks for your time in reading this, and I look forward to any responses.

Cheers,

Danny

Welcome, Danny.
Oh… have I been there before! I would go to sleep thinking about how if I only started from scratch with everything I now know…

Luckily I’m too lazy.

The solution was inevitably obvious. That’s where the helpful gals and guys of the forum come in.

This is the way.
I wouldn’t fret too much about this part because there is little penalty for adapting the database. When I want to delete a database thing or field but I’m not sure, I put it in “purgatory” by adding zzz_ before its name. This will tell futureMe that pastMe thought about getting ride of that.

About what you need in the database, the best way is to try to put on your user’s hat and try the app as much as possible. Thinking like the user will help you find the missing parts.

Otherwise, Petter has a great guide on all things database and performance.

On how to draw a database, I’m a :memo: pen+paper → Miro type of person.

For responsiveness, I’ve been summarizing some of my findings (I’ve never really bothered with it before). The tl;dr on that is “Bubble doesn’t give you a structure, you have to create one yourself.”

You know you can make many things clickable, not just a button, right?

How is that user browsing donations wanted? I’m assuming that there is a page with an repeating group, right? Why can’t you just click something within that RG to start the workflow you have in mind?
