Workload costs are killing me, should I move to code?

Before you move away from Bubble, first find out why your bill is so high.

Bubble charges by workload units (WU). Your app uses some every time it does work, like opening a page or looking up data. Usually, a few parts of your app use most of them.

Here’s how to find those parts:

  1. Open your app’s Logs tab.
  2. Click App metrics. You’ll see a chart of what used the most units.
  3. Look at the top two or three things on it.

A common problem is a page that pulls a lot of data every time it opens. Fix the top few things, then watch your usage for two weeks.

If you’ve fixed those and still have one of these problems, moving to code may make sense:

  • Your app has big jobs to run in the background, like updating thousands of records every night.
  • The way your data is set up makes every new feature hard to build.
  • Investors are worried because a Bubble app can’t be taken out of Bubble as code.

Full Disclosure: I work at Girmairi, where working with determined developers at this point provided help to a non-tech founder in making good decisions, with zero intention of pulling him with the company, genuinely wanted to help. And that one fix stated by the backend engineers catered to this app worked outstandingly well for him.

From that experience I learned these similar experience the bubble people usually struggle and remained unanswered, and instantly decides to "leave bubble ". So I have a free-of-cost fix to try first.

If you’d like, post a screenshot of your App metrics chart here, and I’ll take a look and help with your decision.

Not really a reason to move to code, just likely a reason to get a qualified Bubble developer to setup the proper data structure.

Main reason in my opinion…which is done only after the investors give the investment and portions of that investment are dedicated to the conversion to traditional code.

From my point of view, this is also a bad error/design if you need to do that. Often, there’s no reason to do this kind of stuff…

yeah workloads really add up it does kinda suck specially for SPA but c’mon…

Almost every project at one point can’t handle it’s initial infrastrucure and that goes for gigants like Notion ( Herding elephants: Lessons learned from sharding Postgres at Notion )

Sooo…yeah you can either run away from it or just refactor your work but almost all shitty bubble apps come down to the same problem: shitty developers

I’m sorry didn’t meant to sound aggresive :joy::sob: but I HAVE SPOKEN
