Can Bubble focus on basics for a bit and not just big fancy features?

Over the last few weeks the Bubble Editor has become less and less reliable (Im working on a Mac - just some of it works in Safari, just some of it works on Chrome). Things which used to be reliable are no longer reliable. Although I appreciate Bubble wanting to release headline grabbing stuff like AI generation, Mobile Apps, ChatGPT streaming, etc, etc, there is no point in having all this fancy stuff if the basics dont work.
Please can Bubble get back to the basics and make sure the editor works properly? Spending hours dealing with issues that never used to be there is incredibly frustrating.

Welcome to the Party.

This is one of those things that is a sort of ‘if only’…In my mind ‘if only bubble could focus on fixing bugs and implementing all those low hanging fruit features I’d never think about leaving or worry that Bubble will lose out to competitors’. Sadly, it has been 12+ months of lots of users expressing similar sentiments and unfortunately, it seems Bubble is keen on the exact opposite approach.

I don’t even submit bug reports any more because not one in the past 6 months has been fixed.

PLEASE. It’s not just the past few weeks, for years now issues have been piling up, one after another. Performance issues, longstanding bugs found, reported, and not acted upon, etc…

The thing that has been driving me away from bubble is not that they didn’t have AI or native apps. It’s that their core features are unreliable, broken, and take 3x longer to work with than they should.

Agree it’s not just last few weeks, but in the past I could find some kind of workaround. However, now the editor itself has become so unusable.. for example in the new scripting view, sometimes items just refuse to appear, or when deleted they dont disappear - see this screenshot where a deleted workflow is stuck at ‘loading…’ .. changing browsers, clearing cache, etc, makes no difference. It sticks there and prevents from doing anything in the workflow. This is just one of hundreds of editor bugs they’ve introduced over the last few months.

Hi all. Semi-related (since some of these issues might predate the last 24 hours) but the team identified an issue with a recent deployment and will be rolling it back pretty soon.
You should see things getting back to normal in the next 15-20 mins

Yes I faced this one today. First time to see it though…

But the thing here is not a short-term issue, is becoming a long-term… easy and basic stuffs should be prioritized instead of fancy new ones. Like, anyone remember the table element? It’s still in Beta for a long time. Instead of making the basic stuff work very well they’re jumping in various new things.

Completely agree. And little things that have been a pain in the neck for years, like editing text where there are also dynamic elements… its like playing whack-a-mole to edit the bit that is required!

I got this reply from bubble support yesterday about this. I think this was a real human (first time) which is good althoughly obviously used ai to write it as well:

"

We really appreciate you taking the time to share this, and I totally hear your frustration.

You’re right — we’ve seen other users report similar issues in the workflow editor, and I agree it’s not the kind of experience we want anyone (especially newer users) to run into when using Bubble. Thanks as well for sharing the screen recording and app details up front — that helps a lot.

Just to confirm, I’ve flagged this internally and included your video and app context so our team can review it directly. In the meantime, I know refreshing isn’t a real fix — but it does help temporarily while we continue investigating these editor-side bugs.

We really appreciate your support and advocacy, and I’ll make sure this gets the attention it deserves. I’ll follow up with any updates as soon as I have them!

"

Yes unfortunately bug report has become useless but ‘‘Native Mobile’’ is one strong product in the long run, AI part is good for new user generation. What Bubble needs is not to distribute resources but add new resources, increase team sizes. I think 1 new main focus needs to be added. ‘‘Beginner Ease’’ that focuses on reduces customer churn, native stuff like working groupfocus, better search, better pic uploader, file uploader, slider input, date picker, better reusables to pass data without needing js2bubble, forum AI search or remove plugin tradeoff

I’ll just leave this here:

It’s understandable that they want to stay competitive in the AI race, but some of the bugs can indeed be quite a pain. Perhaps they’re biting off more than they can chew.

I suppose that’s also part of the reason they’re expanding their team.

Bubble don’t care anymore, main goal now is all about AI. Last update was creating a database generator, cool right? But it’s so basic, lacks of features, is beta and can’t actually see your database to construct something using same language, pattern and structure.

Check plugins made by Bubble and last update date, probably 1 year. Table Element a must HAVE plugin, basic for every app, still in Beta after years! How is this even possible? You need to buy a plugin just to use a simple thing. I posted something similar these days and they don’t care

Ive come to dread 3pm UK time .. my guess is that this is when the Bubble team start releasing latest stuff. Its when the editor seems to start having the worse bugs :joy:

Seems related time wise but an app for a client is not loading a list of things in the RG’s

I haven’t changed anything in that page, the ‘Do a search’ is just not working

Already raised a bug ticket, made a loom video and all

But more frustrating is that in the status page of Bubble, it doesn’t say anything

Few time they have got issues and their status page does not show it

Could be great to have it working this way it’s easier to explain clients it’s on Bubble
@fede.bubble

Probably unrelated because the updates in this thread were due to pushing out an improved editor refactor behind the scenes that clearly had some edge cases unhandled

Probably create a new thread with details and we can help debug?

My guess is that around 3pm UK time that’s when a lot of Americans wake up or start working and the shared cluster gets a bit more stressed. Maybe wrong.

The thing that annoys me most is that something will work in the editor on one day, and then for no reason just stops working again. Dont Bubble have a QA team to test features before they release updates??

Over the last few days, I’ve been working on my app, and it has been buggy.

Things don’t work, then they do.

I don’t submit a bug report because they start working again…then sometimes glitch again.

Mostly in the workflow area.

I’ll delete an action, and it will reappear or still be there when I go back, and it just says ‘null’.

Also, I’ll delete an action, and the action will still function.

Sometimes, I’ll add an action, and it won’t show until I refresh the page.

I’m sure they’re doing a lot of work on things, and it messes with other things sometimes. But it can be frustrating.

It does cause me to wonder what I did wrong and spend some time trying to go back and see where I messed up…only to find it works suddenly :joy:

Added: There are workflows where I use JavaScript on a workflow, then delete the script, and it still operates as though the script is still running. I don’t know, maybe that’s normal until I optimize the app?

Very sure this is a bug. Sounds like some workflow changes are not being updated in dev even though you refreshed.
