Changes to our free plan

That change is going make things more stable and better. Thank you!

Totally fair, in my view. So many apps (certainly increasing infrastructure and other costs) where made “just for fun” and were abandoned after a short time (my perspective).

But what’s NOT fair is that paying customers had to live with e.g. the same (terrible and buggy) responsive editor for years…(looking forward to the update…)or that fundamental/basic functionalities have to be added via Plug-ins or workarounds. So, if you are charging customers please listen to them!

Here in Brazil - I agree with the collection and the plans. I also understand that the situation of the Brazilian economy is neither a problem nor the fault of the founders of Bubble. I want to emphasize that several countries have an advantage in relation to the values of the plans, as our local currency is very devalued in relation to the dollar. We pay six times more than other countries that have the dollar as their national currency. We are many users and we are willing to pay for the use of the platform, which is wonderful, but we would like a new entry plan around 10 dollars. For those Brazilians who are just starting out, this new plan will be very attractive to start paying much faster. Only one Brazilian.

I still won’t be paying. This doesn’t encourage me whatsoever your product is not complete, undergoing constant breaking changes, costly, horrendous perfomance and missing many critical features. All that taking into consideration you lock users into product forever with no export, I simply don’t trust you to not raise the prices again, this is greedy. You say it’s to hire new team, for more what growth, marketing, tutors? no thanks, these should not have been hired in the first place, focus on the product. Bubble to me is a toy software to build some idea out before setting up my own hosting for any given project. The true people pushing this product are ones that make money from it’s ecosystem, Bubble is rather fitting name.

The value derived is huge. Great to hear that adequate steps are taken to keep the platform growing :+1:t2:

I’m not sure how I feel about this. I think you do need a cheaper plan for genuine “hobby” non-commercial projects. Take Minnnis - it really is a hobby project - I have no plans to commercialise it. I do actually pay for the professional level, because I don’t personally mind paying $25/mo but I would hate to think about all the other Minnnis that might not be made now. Anyway, overall I want Bubble to be financially stable. I am planning other more commercial projects on Bubble and I want the platform to still be here in 10,20 years time!

I agree you, @davidjlobo . I’m a freelancer and I start to learn bubble a few months ago. I already build a free bubble app to some friends and I’m building a really professional app for a client. But, at Brazil, the dollar value is expensive. A jump from free to $30 is a big jump for me. If there was a “starter plan”, for exemple, from $10, it would be more easy to get and keep new clients with less effort. @Thiago is correct when he suggests to bubble to keep plans according each country. Thanks.

If the company was really worried about growth and expansion they would had focused and planned on this more appropriately. As a business person, you don’t transform (especially without prior notice) such a large scale of the software.

I use Bubble both professionally and personally. I feel this move will do more harm than good and that it was badly implemented. Only time will tell how it will “help” bubble. In reality if storage was a concern here, you would delete (with notice) apps not used but placed as storage. If storage was the issue, you would limit the amount of apps you can have on an account. If storage was the issue, you would place a limit on the number of apps you could have on your account that is far more realistic.

I feel you are about to lose a good portion of specific industries from this jump, and while those populaces may not be the most profitable for Bubble it was still money coming in that you will now not likely have to help pay for your team.

I think the fact that you have to pay to deploy your apps to live is rather ridiculous.

For anybody who’s actually upset, AppGyver just announced the decision to maintain their free product which is hard to learn but powerful

If you think it should have to be free to use bubble, you open a business and go give shit away for free forever. It only gets you so far. Then you gotta charge. And because bubble is a business, it needs to look out for itself.

Apparently they’ve gained enough traction to not need a true free tier to keep business going. Get over it and move on. Unless @emmanuel is open to making further changes or adding on a minor tier (which he should fill us in on) gtfoh!

I’m just sayin.

Even with this downgrade of the free tier. Are there any real competitors in the nocode world?

I will forward the message to our fellow brothers in our industry. thanks!

Hi @emmanuel. I usually don’t post on this such threads but as been using Bubble professionally, and personally +3 years I want to give my opinion.

I can understand the point of this movement, we can’t forget Bubble is a company that wants what all we want when we are building a company, which is to be profitable and make revenue.

But I have to agree with @ChrisBartow44, you could limit the “hobby apps” per account or just auto-delete the unused apps after X time.

I think I’m fine with “not allow apps to push to live” until going to a paid plan, but not giving access to the API which sometimes it’s one of the things that takes more time to configure because Bubble isn’t specially good with that I think it’s very bad movement.

Everyone that builds a project or MVP in Bubble wants to use their own domain which that means he has to change to a paid plan, but many people (me included) want to make sure everything is working and ready before paying.

How much takes to build a fully working MVP ? How do you think it will impact to an entrepreneur that is starting an MVP and cannot access to API if not paying?

I have been in that situation in the past and believe or not every dollar counts when you are starting a project and don’t even know if it will be profitable or not at all.

I can totally understand limiting number of apps in “hobby” plan, I can understand not allowing to push live apps in hobby plan, but for me it’s a big mistake (plus that there’s a low of new companies offering same or better than Bubble at this point with a lot more powerful builder or native support).

So my question basically is; it is worth to remove API from hobby plans having a lot of different ways to prevent resource consumption from other’s hobby plan apps?

I’m not sure I would say it has helped the CAD Industry. Considering a “starting” roleplay server can easily rack up 200 user accounts on a CAD this if anything will limit the roleplay interaction and ability quite extensively.

It will only cause the CAD Industry to spiral further and further into an economic depression and eventually wipe it out. I get it. Bubble is a business, but all they did with this move was hurt their populace.

I was implying that it’ll get rid of forum issues and will wipe out issues with the CAD / MDT / Roleplay category because of the limits… I bet that the majority of hobby apps are because of that… and I’m glad this initiative is getting rid of all that sketchiness and toxicity involved.

Multiple users had issues with that category and frankly I agree with them but it’ll going to get wiped out sooner or later :man_shrugging:

@Emmanuel, thank you for the transparency - it goes a long way nowadays. I love this platform and keep up the great work!

Indeed, but any of the new apps created today forward will not have that feature like the hobby legacy plan.

In my opinion, instead of fully taking it away, you can make the free plan but keep the hobby plan for like $5 a month.

I think we need to consider what @josh said back in 2019 when the prices model was changed to something higher. The bills have to be paid in some way shape or form:

Cant say i agree with some of this stuff, I am trying to learn the API side of bubble but the only way i can is if i pay. This is what attracted people to bubble. A great platform to learn and build app for free. Now you are limited. I understand trying to generate more revenue.

Add more plans, Customizable plans, instead of shutting the people who want learn out.

Hey @emmanuel just curious to know if you plan to make this the same for creating “copies” of old apps on the Hobby plan, are new copies going to be auto converted to the “Free” plan?
