Easiest way to switch between grid and list view without impacting performance

Hey Guys,

New to bubble, I was looking to switch with a click on an icon between a list view like this plugin do (https://pluginpreview.bubbleapps.io/table) and a grid view (like 4 items by row)

For that, I was thinking that having the grid icon that trigger a change of the number of columns in the repeating group hosting my list will do the trick, but I don’t see how you can access the column value of a repeating group via a workflow. Did I miss something?
Or do you have to have 2 repeating group (one for list view, one for grid view) with one hidden by default? And if doing hide/show is the only way, does it load twice the list on page load because of it, impacting performance:?
