This is under minimum wage in any English speaking country. This type of wage / salary should be heavily frowned upon in this community. I can make more money working at the dollar store.

You are right, I forgot the US has no standards. Besides, the point I was trying to make is that even the greenest of developers should not sell themselves that short. It’s not worth it, for a myriad of reasons. And the creator of this post should be ashamed.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you. Unfortunately, every developer opportunity that I have interviewed for or pitched has asked for a portfolio of work. So for someone starting out, the experience, client interaction, and possible referral or repeat future work have value.
“Should be frowned upon” is subjective. There are countries where avg monthly income is less than $250. And a family can survive on $250 a month here in pakistan. Purchasing power of a dollar is not the same everywhere in the world. Yes, I agree that $10/hour is low for this kind of job but its acceptable for many beginners out there.
