I’m building a HIPAA-compliant in-office quoting tool for optometry practices that generates “Good / Better / Best” vision insurance quotes using VSP and Eyemed benefits. The system must handle complex lens enhancement logic based on prescription ranges, insurance plan PDFs, and pre-coded copays.
What You Need Built
• UI for opticians to select prescription range, lens recommendations, and toggle upgrades like photochromic, anti-fatigue, etc.
• Dynamic pricing logic from a preloaded lens enhancement chart (provided).
• Integration of VSP and Eyemed benefit fields (PDF import, or entry via dropdown).
• Final “Quote Screen” that shows Good / Better / Best packages side-by-side with total copays and out-of-pocket costs.
• Optional: ability to export/print/email quotes for patient.
Security Requirements
• HIPAA considerations (we use Microsoft Excel w/ BAA, but future builds may require secure login or API access to EHR).
• No patient name/PHI stored without encryption or proper protections.
Bubble is not currently HIPPA compliant. A lot of people on here are not from the states so they don’t understand HIPPA compliance and will say otherwise. Just FYI.
We have other tools that we would use but they are much more expensive.
Thanks!! I appreciate that. Dang.
May be a big road block.
What are the other tools and what are typically costs? What do t have a huge budget but this tool will make my life and my businesses better and scalable.
Your project sounds super valuable — we’ve worked with health tech teams before (both HIPAA and non-HIPAA apps), and this kind of quoting tool can really save time and improve consistency.
As others mentioned, Bubble alone isn’t HIPAA-compliant — but it can be used safely in hybrid setups. We’ve done this by using Bubble for the interface and routing PHI through compliant infrastructure, with encryption and access control in place.
Happy to share how we’ve handled similar situations and help you explore what’s possible.
