I have 2 questions

How is ranger defined in the data tab

Are you sure dateStart/dateEnd are date fields in your data tab

You should be able to do this all in 1 step also. Probably No need to modify the record you just created. You can set range when you create the event.

Solution:

Put the first date in the expression, then use the <- range -> operator, then put the second date. It will automatically create a range between the older and newer dates.
