having a bad confusion / senior moment… I am looking at a field on my layout that I am quite certain is a multiline input, but if I pop a new one below it, it doesn’t look the same or have the same inputs under appearance. so how the heck do I figure out what kind of field it is? why, for heaven sakes would that information not be included in the element info? if I look under notes, it says it’s a generic element. just checked other fields, and everything is called a generic element under notes. wow! real helpful.
You can start from sharing a picture of the editor panel with more info
Click the question mark icon at the top of the element’s editor… it should give you help for whatever type of element it is.
Also, food for thought… come up with an element naming convention that incorporates the type of element into the name. Renaming elements in such a way is literally the first thing I do when I add an element to a page.
I assume by ‘field’ you mean an input element?..
In which case, just click on the question mark icon in the top right of the element properties editor to see the contextual help video, which should be titled with the element type…
yes, still learning the lingo for bubble, omgosh, I saw the help video, but didn’t trust the idea of using that to identify my element. actually, this is an input field, not a text element, but it’s grouped with a text element.
I was wrong… it is a text element, it’s just showing previous input… thanks for the solution. I still think this is a feature request for bubble. it should show the element type under the info button. right?
Nope, that’s not an input element… it’s a text element.
A solid element naming convention is, in my opinion, pretty important for successful Bubbling. For what it’s worth, I go with the type of element and then what the element contains… so, stuff like input | username
or dropdown | weekdays
.
you both gave me the solution at almost the exact same time, but I should give the checkmark to @mikeloc for coming in first, lol. thank you both @adamhholmes for helping me again!
I agree 100%, and thought what I was doing was solid, but I better go rethink, lol
does anyone agree that the element type SHOULD be under the info button? adding that kind of information to the naming convention seems like a workaround for a missing feature. I am new to bubble, so has this topic not come up? seems kind of obvious?
I’m sure it has come up from time to time in the community, but I think most folks have just figured it is what it is and have worked around it themselves.
