Monthly Community Update -- January 2025

Hi, everyone.

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a restful holiday. I was able to spend some time with my family, which was really nice. This is the January community update, and you can read last month’s update here.

2024 was another great year seeing all of you do big things, and you pushed us to new heights. If you haven’t read our 2024 Bubble Wrapped year in review, don’t miss it!

I said it last month, but it bears repeating: 2025 is going to be a big year for Bubble, and I’m really excited. Our biggest focus is helping Bubble reach more people than ever by making sure Bubble is the best platform on the market for non-technical users to build and launch ideas. That means launching our mobile offering to the public, and ensuring our editor is fun and intuitive to use. We think the future of building software quickly is AI combined with no-code, and this year we plan to integrate AI into all aspects of building on Bubble. Finally, we’re investing in a rock-solid platform that’s reliable and trustworthy. Thank you for being here on this journey with us!

Now for the updates.

What we shipped last month

The team shipped our winter batch of Bubble Boosts, which are smaller updates to help make the everyday experience of using Bubble better. This batch included things like improving 301 redirects and collaborator access settings, as well as better data insights in the debugger. Check out the full list here.

If you have the workflow tab beta enabled in your settings, you can now view more workflow actions at a time thanks to the new compact mode. It’s also easier to add and reorder actions. Read more on the forum here.

We’re continuing to add more folks and features to the mobile beta. This month, we shipped push notifications (exciting!) and made it possible to have multiple live versions. This means you can run old and new versions of the app simultaneously and your end-users won’t need to see a “please refresh” banner when you edit the app. (Yes, we eventually plan to have this for web as well, although it’s not at the top of our list yet.)

And finally, if you’re on a paid plan, you can now log in to Flusk with your Bubble account, which should make using your new security features even easier. In case you missed it last month, you can read more about which features are included in which plans here.

What we’re working on now

December may have been a bit quieter in terms of releases thanks to the holiday season, but we’re hitting the ground running for 2025.

  • AI streaming: One of our top priorities this month is building out native support for AI streaming, which is a feature that enables real-time text responses from AIs like ChatGPT. We know this is a critical feature for many of you, so we’re aiming to release it by the end of Q1.

  • Mobile: The team is firing on all cylinders here.

    • We’re working on adding a shortlist element in response to feedback from beta testers who were looking for repeating group and dropdown functionality. This will be available to all beta testers in January!

    • The team has finished proof-of-concept work on the mobile plugin editor, which will allow users to create React Native plugins.

    • We’re in the early phases of work on Android support, and we’re making bug fixes to location services, adding native alerts, and building a new date/time picker.

    • Last but not least, we’re also updating the deploy flow to make it easier to choose between mobile and web deploys.

  • Changelog: We’re adding more context filters to the changelog alpha to make it easier for version control users to find specific branch changes. We’re planning to open this feature up for beta for Growth and Team plan users this month.

  • Workflow tab: We’re making updates based on feedback from beta testers like adding a better overview of all workflows, a better search for actions, and the ability to sort search results by name or event type. More than 18,000 of you have opted into the beta, and we’re excited to roll out these changes to all of you within the next month or so.

  • Backend workflow tab: In December, we announced that backend workflows are getting their own tab. This release is now scheduled for early this month — we wanted to prevent any unexpected behavior from disrupting your building process during our team’s holiday code freeze.

  • Toolbar redesign: After testing an updated toolbar design with 10% of users last month, we’re starting a larger rollout over the next few weeks — the plan is to have it in the hands of our entire user base by the end of March.

  • Default styles: We’re updating default design styles for brand-new apps to include a fuller palette of color variables. This should make it easier to create beautiful, on-brand apps right out of the gate. That release is scheduled for later this month.

  • Page manager: Development here is almost finished, and we’re heading into QA soon. This update will make it easier to manage different “views” or screens in your app, which will become even more important once our native mobile editor is live for everyone. The beta is scheduled to launch later this month.

  • Bubble Assist: The team is working diligently to get Bubble Assist beta-ready. This month, the focus is on improvements in direct response to early alpha feedback, plus continued work improving the visual quality of our AI’s design outputs.

  • Flusk: We’re working on adding even more entry points to Flusk in the editor in order to make it easier to use those security features directly. We’re also improving the experience for apps on dedicated plans.

That’s all for this month. Hope your 2025 is already off to a fantastic start.

Loving the updates!

@shwabbie
Don’t know your use case but Amazon SNS or pushEngage are both good alternatives

Bubble Assist & AI Streaming

Q1 is going to be really great

Any word on those changelog visibility updates?

Thanks

Thanks, Josh! This year is going to be our best one yet!

Happy Bubbling, everyone! :rocket:

Updates looking great…. I’m really looking forward to the backend workflow navigation and the mobile updates.

  • Nothing about database speed?
  • No calendar available at mobile launch?
    Frustrating…

Please do not release this if we are still not going to be able to modify the name, description of the built in colors or delete them.

As of now the built in colors have names and descriptions we can not modify, which is terrible UX…additionally we can not delete them, which will be even more poor of a UX if we are going to be forced to have more than the current 8 built in colors.

The thing that is preventing me to this day from rebuilding my app with the new mobile builder is the absence of “repeating groups” and alerts, so it’s great to hear that these features will be coming soon.

Wow!!!

Hey guys!
Regarding the parentheses, do you have an idea of updates in this way of editing the parameters inside a parentheses one by one, so that they don’t delete them all?

+100 the beta expression editor that was taken away and lead to believe we’d have a replacement coming. For new users you’re trying to attract (which we all hope you do for the better of us all) they probably don’t see this pain right away but this is a big pain point for apps once you get past the learning stages of bubble and want to get into the real work. And shows up pretty quickly when you want to make a small change leading to extra work or copy an element from one page to another and need to change to align with the new page. If you can’t bring back the amazing expression editor please make some strides on the low hanging fruit to not delete the end when changing something. It doesn’t delete the end if it’s before an And or Or conditional so it has to be possible to make that tweak for the last expression.
