Moving items to new containers using Elements Tree

I just spent about 30 minutes trying to move an item out of a pointless container and into a popup
I want to change this:

> Popup A
       > Box_1
             > My Item

To this:

> Popup A
      > My Item

No matter what I do, I can’t seem to drag my item directly into the popup. It always ends up landing somewhere crazy in the page. I wish there was some way to use the Elements tree to move this out of the container, but that doesn’t seem to work.

What options and strategies do I have for moving items to new places within containers?

Do you get the expected behaviour if you right click the element and hit “ungroup these elements”?

Yes, ish. Still not the amount of control that would be possible if I could edit directly from the element tree.
