[Product Enhancement] App Interface Manager

Thanks for keeping up with it.

Has bubble considered wrapping the editor using something like electron to give us mac/windows versions of the editor so browser memory limits aren’t as big of an issue?

I think the team has enough comments already that they can stop watching the thread and start fixing the issues instead :person_shrugging:

Why I don’t have the mobile option? It’s just not there. Only Web and reusable

Some new update on the settings manager has come (not sure who wanted that).

And I also hear some updates have been done to this interface and it is working better for some.

Unfortunately, for me it has become worse now. My editor is not loading itself now most of the times, and page switcher dropdown is even slower :frowning:

Don’t know if I am in minority.

Yeah… It seems Bubble isn’t for me anymore!..
Having a Windows box with 16GB I can’t open or edit my existing apps.
I’m sooo frustated…

@fede.bubble you can make public the information about the minimum hardware requirements for building apps in Bubble… At least you could set expectations clear… “Bubble IS NOT for everyone to build apps. You MUST have a mainframe or similar to build apps in our platform”.

Ah, yes! We’re approaching Quantum computers… Hmm, maybe that works…

I guess I’m one of the lucky few that don’t experience any issues? I’ve even edited apps on my Samsung device in Dex mode and didn’t have much issue.

In the end the Bubble editor is just a web based editor. Performance is subjective. There’re so many factors at play here. From machine specs to browser to browser extensions. Some people open multiple instances of the editor (the editor was not built for that but hey…) while some people just don’t want to clear cache.

It’s not correct to throw a blanket statement on editor performance. Parts of the editor still need work but to me it’s more UX issues than performance ones.

Thanks @alex.bolanos for hearing us. Separatting the RE and the page is great

@alex.bolanos, unless I’m missing something, it seems folder names can’t be edited, which is really super annoying after I just added 30 items to a folder and waited for the loader between each one! If I’m not missing something, I hope that was some oversight somehow as there’s no way Bubble would force such a feature on us like that without folders being editable, right?

Seems like a bug :man_facepalming:

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who have taken the time to share feedback on the new App Interface Manager (AIM). We’ve been closely following this thread and others, and I wanted to share a bit more about where we’re at, what’s already improved, and what we’re still working on.

First, thank you for sharing feedback.

We know this rollout hasn’t been smooth for everyone. Some of you are excited about the new design and structure, while others have run into performance issues or found the new layout hard to adjust to. That kind of mixed response isn’t always easy to navigate, but it’s incredibly helpful for us. You’re helping us build a better product, and we appreciate that.

What’s changing:

We’re making the following changes based directly on what you’ve shared here:

  • Separated sections for web, web reusables, mobile, and mobile reusables: This was one of the most consistent requests, so we prioritized it. Instead of a single combined list, you’ll now see distinct groupings that make navigation much clearer, especially in larger apps.
  • Reduced jumpiness when scrolling in AIM: We’ve fixed the issue where scrolling or previewing items could cause the interface to reset unexpectedly. This update went live, and will make scrolling through the list feel more stable, especially on larger apps.

What’s not currently planned:

Here is some of the feedback that is either working as designed or is outside our current scope, as we prioritize the above fixes.

  • Drag-and-drop folder reorganization: We agree this would be a great quality-of-life improvement. It’s also a relatively heavy lift, and we want to better understand long-term folder usage before committing to building this.
  • Dropdown tweaks like close buttons or wider previews: In order to reserve team capacity for the above fixes, we won’t be addressing this yet.

Ongoing performance investigations & ask for the community:

We are actively reviewing reports of slow performance with AIM. Performance issues can depend on a mix of factors, including app size, browser behavior, or local system load. If you are experiencing performance issues, we ask that you submit a bug report with a screen recording to help our teams better understand what’s going on for each scenario. You can submit bug reports via our support bot in bubble.io/support.

Lastly, we heard from some of our beta testers that the current loading spinner can make wait time feel longer, even when backend performance is similar. We’re reviewing that UI as well.

Thanks again for being so thoughtful and direct in your feedback. We know how important it is to trust the tools you work in every day, and we’re committed to continuing to improve that experience.

Please refer to this post for the screen recording: Bubble has lost its way - #22 by mghatiya

Honestly, I am not going to file bug report just to get few automated or canned responses regarding team is going to look into it, or that I should clear my cache etc.

Hi everyone, quick update from the team.

We’ve just rolled out a set of performance optimizations for the App Interface Manager (AIM). These improvements target some of the slowness and crashes that were reported, especially in larger apps.

Your feedback and bug reports helped us track down this particularly tricky issue, and we appreciate everyone who surfaced what they were seeing.

We’ll continue monitoring, but please let us know if you’re still running into slow load times with a screen recording to help us make targeted improvements.

Thanks again for the feedback. We hope this makes the experience noticeably smoother.

Yes to this x1000!

I know that’s probably not remotely close on their radar, but a man can dream.

Great news. I’ll let you know if it has improved the editor.

The last 2 weeks have been incredibly difficult with the constant crashes and slowness. Fingers crossed it is resolved now.

The app still crashes much more than it did 2 weeks ago.

It does crash around half as much as it did 1 week ago, but it’s still a lot more than it did before this new AIM was rolled out.

The previews in the AIM also never load for me and actually get in the way. I’ve had several instances where the previewer doesn’t close and I’m fighting with it to get out of the way so I can click on the thing I want that’s behind it.

Adding back the grouping in the AIM has been good - thank you.

I can also confirm that the editor crashing is really just for the really complex apps I work on. Today I worked on some simple apps and the editor was nice and fast with no crashing. Complex apps are still a pain and unfortunately that’s where I spend most of my time.

the improvement that was pushed to hold the last search has greatly sped up the AIM - thank you

bubble editor seems to be stable today without any crashes so far - so it’s a lot less frustrating to work with. thank you for the last few changes - they have made a HUGE difference.

The recent AIM update has regressed some things that were already working perfectly well. Now, the dropdown input:

  1. Doesn’t automatically focus.
  2. Doesn’t delete the previously typed text.

Loom

first I thought that was a bug also but then I used it and I think it actually speeds things up because it holds the most recent search query therefore it doesn’t have to research for it when I reopen it

this is very useful most of the time since I’ll be working on all elements related to “venue” and it’ll list and hold the 20 relevant ones

Hmm, maybe I just need to get used to it.

I still think that that input should always be focused when that dropdown is opened, even if it’s already got text in it.

yes that would be helpful if it was focused and all the text selected so you could just click then type if you intended to change it
