Searchbox Geographic Places - City value not as expected

Hey there! Users on my app create events and choose the address. I use the Searchbox and search and choose from Geographic Places. This has been working great. However, just today I noticed that for “city,” it is showing something a bit weird and is wrecking my UI. For example…

What I want it to show: 19 Jr Gilliam Wy, Nashville, TN 37219
What it shows: 19 Jr Gilliam Wy, Nashville-Davidson metropolitan government (balance), TN 37219

Even if I extract the city from the address, it is showing the city as “Nashville-Davidson metropolitan government (balance)” .

Any idea why it would do this? It does it for any address in Nashville, TN.

I just checked on one of my apps that does this and has addresses in Nashville TN.

All looks good for me.

But when I put that address into google. (Just the 19 Jr Gilliam Wy)

It tells me that this is not in Nashville, TN.

Google says that it is in Nashville-Davidson metropolitan government (balance), TN 37219

So I wonder if this address is just weird, and the rest works fine! :white_check_mark:

Hmm… it seems to be doing it for me with basically any address that is in Nashville. Even an address that was input for an event created a few weeks ago… it says the city is Nashville. But if I go to retype that exact address to edit the event, it shows the weird “Nashville-Davidson metropolitan government (balance)” thing.

Nothing was changed in my system. So weird.

That to say… it’s not showing this change in city on addresses that previously were input. Just new ones I’m trying to create.

Hmm… (To quote you…)

It seems like these are correct?

It’s definitely a correct address. However, my question may not have been defined super well. It’s a display issue.

You can see from the screenshot below the issue this is causing with my UI. See the City, State display on these events. Any previous day creating events would just use Nashville, TN. And I’ve created and displayed hundreds. I’ve never seen this new city that looks so weird.

I guess my question are… does this happen for others,? (which it seems it does) Is there a way to get my Geographic Places search to display Nashville (and potentially other cities I haven’t discovered) in a normal way?

Lastly, I have tried “extract: City” and this still shows the longer weird city name. I also know that I could simply display it with “find&replace,” but surely that can’t be the only solution here. TBD

It seems this has corrected itself automatically. Not sure why Google maps was pulling a different city name… but as of now, it is working properly with no changes from my end.

Today google shows just “Nashville” for the address I googled earlier that showed the full address.

Must have been google!

So happy it fixed itself. I was terrified this was going to be an ongoing issue. Thank you for digging into it with me. Huge sigh of relief over here.
