Updating cart item quantity count

I am using this food delivery template and I have added an icon to the upper right of my icon shopping cart to show the number of items in the cart, however, I either have the option to display the items or the quantity but not both.

Let’s say I have 1 x burger and 1 fry it will say there are 2 items in the cart, but if I put another burger in the cart it will still only say there are 2 items yet the quantity of the items has increased.

Please help.
