When is Bubble going to fix the crashing?

Every app I try to work on crashes on me multiple times, sometimes every couple of minutes. How can I get anything done if the editor can’t load properly? My clients are dealing with the same issues so I know it’s not just me or my computer. These are normally heavier apps, but I used to be able to work in them without an issue. I even have the editor crashing on a dedicated plan, which I would think they wouldn’t be impacted by this issue. Is this a memory issue again? Does Bubble need to review that again? I see in chrome that the editor is using over 2 GB of memory with only having one editor open. I don’t think that normal.

Anyone else constantly dealing with this all day? Slows down productivity immensely. :man_facepalming:

There is a known memory leak on the design tab. It’s less “leaky” now than when the issue was first reported a while ago, but it’s still there as of the last time I checked (within the past week).

How quickly the editor crashes depends on the “weight” of the pages being edited, the frequency with which different pages are visited, and the amount of “heap” memory available (which is a function of the amount of RAM on your machine).

I actually refresh the editor throughout the day; but I do what I call a “clean” refresh - i.e. copy the current editor URL, open a brand new browser tab, paste the URL into the fresh tab, and then close the “crippled” old tab. I have found this method of refreshing to be more robust than any other method - so much so that I added a hot key to my in-house Chrome extension so I can do it with a single key stroke.

Anyway, not much consolation I reckon, but that’s the scoop. Bubble is aware of it, but I guess it wouldn’t hurt to follow up with them and get the current status.

Yeah @sudsy , I do the same. I just wish they would finally fix it and stop forgetting about it. I am at 2.6 GB in the browser and the computer is working overtime.

As an alternative, I save this as a bookmark in my bookmarks bar in Chrome and it closes everything and reopens all of my tabs with one click. Saves a bunch of time if you have multiple tabs open too. chrome://restart

Really the issue is that I keep getting the popup that says to wait for it to load or refresh the page. That never used to happen. I used to at least be able to go for an hour before having to restart. Now it is every few minutes when I just start working in the app. Then eventually it will work a bit better after a bunch or restarts.

I hear ya. Unfortunately, Chrome does not play well when restarting with many windows, tabs, and tab groups open across multiple monitors. I don’t know if it’s the fault of Apple, Google, or both; but when Chrome restarts, I have to reposition a bunch of windows. It’s much faster and easier for me to hover a tab to view the memory consumption and then do a targeted clean refresh. Would like not to have to do it at all though.

Yeah, me too.

Been an ongoing issue for months despite many bug reports and forum posts - this issue has been one of the main reasons I’m moving off of bubble. I just can’t work productively in the editor anymore.

Submit bug reports for it - it’s the only way to “pressure” the team internally to fix it.

What are you moving to? @mitchbaylis

I am so sick of bug reports. Especially with things that I can’t reproduce reliably.

Re-starting chrome works somewhat.
But nothing like re-starting the computer 1-2 times a day.
I always do this, working in a laggy editor is not my thing, and re-starting is like 3-4 minutes.

I use this extension every 2-3 hours with hard refresh. Haven’t faced any crashes, the app is 4 y.o and heavy ofc.

So the issue I am complaining about is not the typical couple times per day. It’s every 2-3 minutes for the first hour of work on an a heavy app. The error comes up about waiting for it to load or refresh.

This is the error that shows up every 2 minutes on larger apps for me.

Just refreshed the page and I am at 2.8 GB memory usage already.

Same here… out of memory every time , many Times.
Switch dev ↔ live version force me to reload my tab ( if no memory crash) .
And YES I’m using reusable element to reduce the weight of my pages …
What is going on bubble team ?

Yeah. For sure.

Do you have the backend checker on or off? Just out of curiosity. @loic1

“On” most of the time . But I’ve tried with “ issues_off=true” … pretty much the same

I mean the backend. Not the front end. When you open the issue check and uncheck that box. Is that what you mean too? @loic1

Yes , but i mean I tried both things , no difference
