Check out this free plugin 1 Thing - Index Finder Plugin | Bubble It does exactly what you need and is simple to use. Then you can easily get the index of any given item, then simply use that to skip to the next item in the list, or go back to the previous.

Coming back to report that I have figured out how to do this with a repeating group. The “current index” should actually just be “Page number” . I’m also able to get the total number of items in the list (from a repeating group) by doing: RepeatingGroup's List :count

Whelp, I’m back to the drawing board again… I can’t figure out a way to navigate to a particular item in the RG.
